I say, 2 options. 1. Start with Self-Titled, knowing it’s generally considered the weakest post reunion album. I think there’s some good stuff in it, but some of it not so much. So starting here, know it gets better. 152 is probably the best post reunion album, so ending with that would give you a high note to end on, IMO. 2. Start with 152 as being considered their best in a long time, it gives you the best chance to really start invested. Then go through the other albums however you want to.
For me, post reunion albums would be this from best to worst 152 Happiness Is Self-Titled Tidal Wave Those last two is probably what the kids call a hot take.
Every album has been better than the last for me. Not sure they can continue that trend, if they did it would be contending for my favorite album ever lol
152 TW HI ST But yeah, start with ST and work your way through chronologically to see the growth/improvement.
I’d say Tidal Wave and Happiness Is are almost on the same level. Happiness Is has more bangers front-to-back but Tidal Wave is the more cohesive album from track to track. They’re both great, but 152 is actually their best post-reunion album.
I feel that way too. I don't have a favorite song on Tidal Wave per se, because I love listening to it from front-to-back more. To me, that album is more of an experience than a "just pick a few songs off the album and listen to them at random" thing like I do with the other TBS albums (except 152).
Haha FWIW though I do believe Adam is a genuinely nice guy from the couple of times I’ve met him and listening to him on this podcast
Decided to go from New Against to 152. New Again is rad. I’m pretty sure I haven’t heard this record since the year it came out. Louder Now was the massive big label release made for hits, this has some big time indie laid back vibes. Sounds like a product of its time without knowing the year it dropped I bet I would have been pretty close. Nothing mind blowing but it was a really enjoyable. Sink Into Me is a banger of a single. Do they not play any songs from this record live? Sink Into Me should get some love. Really liked Cut Me Up Jenny, Capital M E, Summer Man. New Against sounds like a stripped back New Again B Side. Valiant effort with Adam fully being in the drivers seat singing without such a strong tag team vocalist.
It’s largely ignored now with only Everything Must Go popping up once in awhile for a show or two. I won’t comment on either liking or disliking that. lol
Speaking of New Again(st?) b-sides, listen to the b-sides from this album. Some of this band’s best material ever, and I’m not even kidding about that.
I really like "Everything Must Go" but it bums me out that the band treats it like the only song on New Again worth playing
I know, i know. I made a post the other night about what a genuine guy Adam is by accidentally posting “He genu” before completing my thought so I can’t throw stones
