Summer, Man slander? You're choosing violence. I agree Capital M-E is one of the weakest songs from the album, but surprisingly it's the 2nd most streamed song from New Again.
New Again (the song) could have been great if they take out the last 75 seconds or so. That song starts off pretty strong and then drags and drags and really puts a strain on Adam (especially on Orensanz). Carpathia is easily the second best song on NA (after Swing).
From wikipedia (and I remember reading this at the time) On November 6, 2008, Taking Back Sunday revealed in Rolling Stone that their fourth studio album was to be titled New Again and would feature the tracks "Winter Passing", "Lonely Lonely", "Catholic Knees", and "Carpathia". They stated that "Winter Passing" was "... a slow dance like the last song at your 8th grade dance [that] moves more like an R&B tune than a rock and roll song"
I think I'm just impressed I remembered that any song was in a different time signature. Ah, okay. That makes sense.
i don't think there was a single strong enough on NA to build on the momentum they had gotten from LN. and i'm a huge NA fan.
I thought the title track would have been a great fit for lead single and kicking off an era with that lineup change.
There's something about the delivery of the verses in Everything Must Go that really scratches my brain nicely. That "cabinet record player with nothing but James Taylor" bit. I remember being really shocked when Everything Must Go made it into their Sad Summer setlist alongside the One and S'old before 152 came out.
However, Sink Into Me as a lead single did eventually translate into the "I Used to Be in Taking Back Sunday" tee shirts, because they had them made for Envy and Anberlin to wear during the one late night performance (doing the claps & heys), then made them into merch due to demand. And that was very funny to me personally, also considering they've had a thousand more lineup changes since making those shirts.
I've still got one. Might be a bit small for him, and I doubt that yellow color looks good after sitting for this many years in storage somewhere, but if he wants it...
I’m surprised it didn’t happen because they were playing that song live for a year before New Again was released and the whole getting the audience to clap thing was super over and it kicked off with a sweet Rubano bass line so it was a winning formula. But I do agree it does kinda drag a little bit towards the end but whatever.
Whoever posted the Mark lyrics can go to hell because now that stupid song is stuck in my head I'M BETTER THAN YOUUUUUUU
It is genuinely funny that they went with those shirts as a marketing strategy kicking off this era of the band in a tongue in cheek way only to go through another line-up change 9 months later
A couple of my friends remade these shirts like a year or two ago and when the band saw them (including Mark, which in hindsight...) they all talked about how funny the shirts were and wished they had them. Highly unlikely they would reprint them in 2025 as grown adults, but man. It would be fun for me personally. As long as they don't go with yellow again...who picked yellow.
I briefly went through a yellow v-neck phase, then I met my wife and she was like “sorry, yellow is not most people’s color”
I absolutely love Winter Passing, it's definitely a highlight. the "stuck in the middle between return to sender" bit lives rent-free in my head
