At some point I think I'll make a longer post because due to the implication of possible schizophrenia this entire situation hits much closer to home for me, but I want to say very quickly that as times become more rough and the mental health care in this country/the culture surrounding mental health in this country being so shit/the impending rise of fascism, i want to say prepare for a lot of people and artists you used to love going through mental breakdowns and seeming regressions. It is sad to watch people degrade in such a way, but I am proud of the fact that the band tried the best they could in the situation they found themselves in.
LOL for weeks he's been saying shit like "just you wait, the ugly truth will come out soon," and in the end his statement is just a tame and cordial "I'm out, best of luck to everyone."
Why couldn't he just have done that from the jump, lmao. I'd have a much better impression of him instead of the nonsense I've seen otherwise. Oh well, live and learn etc
I have a feeling this wasn’t a fully made decision until relatively recently. And there was a lot of public bridge burning over the weekend
On that note, I really hope this TBS/Coheed/Foxing tour gets officially announced today. I had WYWTB and Louder Now on shuffle during my morning commute and its got me all hyped. Bears repeating that Brooklyn and Sleep fucking slap.
I'm glad he made a tame post about it publicly but it doesn't change all that stupid drama he caused over the past few weeks on his way out. Probably didn't write that himself. Wonder when or if the band will chime in.
Yeah, it feels like he had a lot of help crafting this statement, and it not being put out with a TBS statement at the same time makes me wonder if the band didn’t have a good idea it was coming today/right now
I’ve said before and I’ll say it again- Remove “Up Against” from Louder Now, and replace it with Sleep and put Brooklyn between Divine Intervention and Miami, and Louder Now suddenly becomes a perfect album.
If it’s a tour with coheed in the states, will it be announced until their spring tour is over? Unless it’s in completely different markets?
Yeah I get the feeling that the band were doing their best to keep quiet about the situation and work things out with Mark so that he wouldn’t leave, but then between Eddie’s remarks on that podcast and Mark’s very public crash out over the last week, the decision was made.
Up Against has entered a weird area for me where I clearly don't like the song/find it boring and always have, but somehow can't imagine the album without that song either. Definitely agree sleep and Brooklyn should be in there. I don't know what the best taking back sunday song is, but in my opinion Brooklyn is a fierce competitor for it.
Yeah, the back half of that bridge where they go “you’re better off believing everything you heard was true. You’re better off believing everything you heard was…genuine and unprepared!” is one of the best things they’ve ever recorded
Selfishly, I wish the disaster that is Mark’s departure from TBS would continue because it was entertaining, but I am also happy Mark has decided to make a mature decision to share the news on Instagram without too much further hostility. Interesting that both Eddie and Mark have felt like they didn’t receive enough support from the band when trying to fix their lives. Definitely wonder what was done vs what could have been done better.
Both Eddie and Mark have now made references to "making music with an old friend" (Mark on today's Instagram staement, Eddie on his Reddit post from a couple days ago) so they'll probably release something together.
I've been awaiting that Mark statement for about 6-8 months now. Long before the chaos ensued. Still hits a bit different to see an original member depart the band after 20+ years.
Especially after seeing him as much in the forefront of the 152 promo as he was. Guess things really soured very quickly between him and the rest of the band after the album release (hence the scrapped music video too?)
I feel like everything about the 152 promo was “Mark had this idea…” like all the stuff being record on Long Island, etc. and even in the VIP Q&A sessions, Adam mentioned Mark a lot of times and how he brought so many different things to the table etc
