I’m just going to say it: I liked bend to break but there was no one I was going to tell with a straight face, “oh yeah check out this band called the color Fred” what a horrible band name
Yes sir! Incredible show from start to finish by all. So it wasn’t a one-off situation and that’s just who he is. Gotcha. I knew it wasn’t fair to judge too harshly from one encounter 20 years ago, but the way he’s handling this vs how Eddie did speaks a lot to both of their character. Rubano came across like he’d be friendly based on interviews during that era so I’m not too surprised you’d say that. You’d think he was the frontman of the band at the time based on how comfortable he was off-stage compared to Adam. Again, things have changed. Bringing John and Shaun back really seemed to loosen Adam up. Growing up likely had a part to play as well. And yeah, Fred has always seemed like an overall good dude so it was rough seeing him perform a headlining set to what was likely under 100 people at a School of Rock in NJ the day his album was released. Meanwhile two months earlier I saw him at a sold out amphitheater performing before two of the biggest rock acts around, while being in a prolific rock band himself. I don’t think he ever could have predicted how few people would follow his future endeavors despite how much talent he clearly displayed in TBS.
Lesson to be learned. Never use a poll on the Internet to pick your band name. Use the Wu-Tang Clan name generator.
Ha, I remember that Nassau show you're all talking about. Weezer fans were pretty ruthless to openers back in the day. I remember The Fray lead singer talking before "How to Save a Life"—longgggg before they blew up—about how personal the song was and people were like "wrap it up dude!"
I genuinely wish all the best for Eddie, but thinking a band named FGAD would get him anywhere at his age is hilarious to me. With a name that bad, they would have needed the best songs, the best marketing, and still a ton of luck for that to stick.
I also remember Adam exchanging words with someone in the crowd because of all the heckling. And then less than a year later TBS came back to Nassau Coliseum as a headliner for the Louder Now tour (with Angels & Airwaves and Head Automatica opening) and that was one of the most wild crowds I'd ever seen for them.
missed the nassau coliseum AVA tour bc i was at my then gf's after-prom party weekend. was a little bitter.
I ended up going to the Six Flags show for that tour instead because I got lost on my way back to NJ from Nassau. This was back when MapQuest directions had to be printed out. Should have invested in a Garmin earlier and went back out to LI. Six Flags was weak.
And that was a genuinely earnest preamble before the song, which I actually connected with. Those damn ruthless Weezer fans (I say while sporting a goofy Rivers avatar).
A Year and Change is really good. Love "Crooked Mile," which he wrote about his relationship with TBS. Also "Ever Write," a nice Lemonheads kinda song
My fav tbs live moment will always be give it a name tour 2009 in Munich, Bavaria. Such a weird combo of bands (TBS, Escape the fate, underoath). ETF opened "Situations" with saying "this next song is about fucking". When TBS was on, Adam said "i wont say stuff like that, i have a little more class". Later on he burped into the mic. The tension was so funny.
addiction sucks and puts distance between people that can never be healed in some cases even if both sides get better anyways this is my favorite band Eddie was ever in
everyone hopping over the barrier to GA was so baller. My buddy was in line to get popcorn and saw me in GA and just put his hands up like c'mon!
So first full week in January is historically a pretty big one for tour announcements… hopefully TBS will be part of that
This stands out to me as one of my all time favorite show moments from like an audience perspective. And it’s always surprised me that I’ve never really seen it happen more?
Apparently they were in the comments of Instagram replying to somebody who was asking about spring tour dates so we’ll see
I think a lot of that may have to do with the timing, it seemed like the emo/rock wave crested and began falling hard right around late 2007/2008. Paramore seemed like the last gasp of it being a big thing but it felt like people were starting to move on around then
