While I enjoy some tracks off their last three records - I would rank all of them last in their discography. Happiness Is.. > Tidal Wave > S/T
Happiness Is... and Tidal Wave are both insanely good. At this point of my life, I'd much, much, prefer to listen to those records than any of their other albums.
Let's all listen to the bridge of All The Way together at the same time and maybe a heavenly miracle will happen like the blink single dropping
Agreed. Some of the best reunion songs have utilized them. This Is All Now, Call Me In The Morning, Flicker Fade, It Takes More, Better Homes And Gardens, and Holy Water all have some great vocal tradeoffs or overlapping melodies.
I kid, I kid! I like many of their albums, everyone in here is always just so all over the place with albums, especially so much New Again hate
S/T is easily, by far, their worst, but it still has at least 3 top tier TBS songs and I’d argue it’s more inconsistent than straight up bad. Still, I agree with the general sentiment that s/t sours their case as a top alt rock band of the last decade, but if we squeeze New Again into that decade (which is reasonable, since the record was new in 2010) I think they have as good a case as anyone else. The last 2 records especially have some of the most mature and clean songwriting to come out of the scene in that time. Happiness Is is possibly a top 5 record of the decade for me and I’m shocked it’s not universally seen as a modern scene classic. I’d still call WYWTB my favorite, and some days I’d take LN over all their 2019-and-later music aside from HI, but the band has aged incredibly. Another vote for drew here.
This is very good by Adam singing standards but I also will say I have never gone to a TBS show to hear the man sing pitch perfect vocals…I go to scream lyrics back at the band with a crowd of energized fans
He does this thing with his voice where he really just does the first sound and cuts it short really quick. I guess to preserve his voice. That video's really not vocally impressive or different lol. I agree that there can be great shows just because of energy but can you imagine if he could belt it louder than the album and full? Can't deny that would be ridiculously amazing. Hate to bring them in here ha, but Brand New could do similar things and Jesse would belt louder and vary it up. It's fun, but it's still kind of Adam karaoke of how Adam use to sound lol. Almost wish they adopted a "loud screamerish person to back him up" or had Nolan claim some parts which really I don't understand why they don't. They understand they're a nostalgia band having some fun and almost on borrowed time to make a good living off what things that hit a ton of years ago. Edit: I was using a vocal example from a similar sounding band that belts, don't start any BN/Jesse discussion here not directly related to TBS. k. thx. bye.
S/t is really good—some all time TBS songs on there. Don’t think they’ve got a bad album in their catalog, but I don’t think they’ve got a consistently great one either
See I didn’t know this. Because people who make a new thread when a album is announced and don’t post it in the band thread are serial killers
Man, this song fucking rips and Adam does sound great here. I really hope there is a reasonably sized club tour coming with the album release. Last time I saw them was an outdoor festival - they sounded fine, but the atmosphere just wasn't right for me to really get as into it as I would've liked.
I would bet any money that their next headlining tour is House of Blues type-sized venues, which is perfect for them.
