There’s been a huge lack of information. Their website design isn’t appealing. They don’t keep it up to date with information. They hardly post their dates to their Instagram grid and don’t highlight their stories. It’s not surprising to me that the videos from this weekend went viral with many comments saying people didn’t know they were still around.
They were only 3 1/2 years removed from Tidal Wave when the pandemic hit. Easy to pin that and the departure of Eddie as the main reasons they haven’t done anything new til now.
Oh yeah, and if we look at the pandemic as a restart then it’s only been two years since they really got to be in the same room again. I know they’ve said they like working in the same room, so that’s that, and during the pandemic they did do that weekly “podcast” which was entertaining enough but it feels like there’s a missed opportunity for fan engagement. also their Twitter presence is very hot and cold. Their “snarky” responses are a little off putting from time to time, though I know that’s likely management and none of them since only John seems relatively active on any form of social media.
I couldn't tell you the last time I looked at an actual band website for any reason other than a pre-order going up
Cool! Guess we should all cater to the reasons you're here, Mr. Gatekeeper! This is one of the only places online dedicated to talking about this band. Somebody asked a question and I responded to explain myself. Deal with it. Or don't. I don't care.
Pretty much everything you said to me deflected and contributed nothing of substance. Good job, Greg. Until next time.
I mean, my only point is that back seating bands’ marketing on here is severely stupid to me. It isn’t supposed to contribute anything beyond my opinion. That’s it. That’s all. I love how much you care though.
You've made that abundantly clear. And again....this is a place dedicated to talking about this band. I don't think it's out of bounds. I'm sorry you disagree.
Where did I say it’s out of bounds? You’re just arguing shit I never said because I disregarded your marketing class post. You have now agreed I have made my only point clear. So what’s to argue?
The only reason I responded to you was because I mistakenly thought you had something of value to add, and I was happy to listen and learn. Turns out it was just "I don't like this." So yeah we have nothing else to discuss, to the benefit of everyone else in this thread.
FWIW I agree with a lot of this and found it interesting As someone who's also worked in marketing/PR I think it's fair game to analyze the promo strategies of artists we enjoy
I adore this band but I can definitely see where their marketing/online presence/whatever you want to call it is lacking. That said, I think they’re content with the level of success they’ve found and where they’re at now. Maybe Fantasy gives them a good push and they reach new heights or whatever. That would be cool! But they wouldn’t lose sleep if they just stayed where they’re at.
I agree with everything you’ve said….I was a HUGE TBS fan through Louder Now but fell out of the scene as I got older…now I see them as a nostalgia act and it is hard not to when they keep touring Tell All Your Friends and not releasing new music and basically all the reasons you mentioned….with that said music trends are cyclical and it does seem like there is a new emo/pop punk wave coming in…that along w a catchy new single and their viral video playing a backyard have renewed my interest in revisiting their cataloging and awaiting what’s next
Man you guys are such dicks for no reason. I found that post very valuable and felt it was interesting to me and probably others in this thread reading it. Would you rather have thousand more "New Again is bad/good" posts coupled with unfunny jokes and endless low-effort content like ranking? For once we're discussing something else on here.
