His part in The One is actually really good and catchy as to my ears, I love it! That being said, I still think vocally Matt was absolutely killer, he also shined in most of their live recording I saw from that era - I would love to get some more of his projects in the future
Listening to S/T right now and would love to see them dust off Best Places To Be A Mom in the live set at some point
I think on record, he still sounds fine but I’ve been saying for a while he doesn’t sound great live. Hot take, but I think he has sounded worse than Adam live for a while.
Listening to Tidal Wave for the first time in years and its just as good as I remember. Might put on Happiness Is... next.
mark picked it for their artist picks 10" Taking Back Sunday – Artist's Picks (2019, Vinyl) - Discogs
He runs up and down the length of it and comes up front. Shaun is also mobile and will go onto the raised platform from time to time. Also interestingly with Adam back on the raised platform, John has moved a lot more during the set towards the center of the stage. They seem to be having a silly time with it
Matt singing Set Phasers to Stun live in the acoustic version is one of my favorite versions. He nails it. Really liked his contribution.
I just...don't know how New Again could be ranked below the self-titled. Outside of Best Places to Be a Mom, it's quite a dud for me and a huge disappointment for John and Shaun's return album. Thankfully they followed it up with Happiness Is, which rips for the most part.
For me, it's because it was the biggest disappointment in the entire discography (personally). I remember exactly where I was when I downloaded the leak (the living room of my buddy's house - the same house where I torrented Team America and got a letter sent to his parents house from their ISP). Ran through it and was just...bummed. No desire to revisit it really. S/T had the excitement of john and shawn. Sure that album had "Doesn't Feel a Thing Like Falling" but it also had "Since You're Gone" and "El Paso."
Ranking self-titled over New Again is fucking wild to me, lol. You do you, but anyone with those tastes is simply listening to a different Taking Back Sunday than I am.
I love the commitment some of you have to the bit of considering that very middle-of-the-road rock album some abnormality of awfulness.
