Aren't the ticket sales for the Sad Summer Fest going horribly? Watch them cancel the tour and say something like 'we really need to finish this album and can't tour until it's done' or some shit.
This is my favorite band and I am running out of patience for news on the album. It’s almost easier to just pretend that there isn’t going to be a new album at all
I'm honestly pretty content if they never release another album. They've already made a ton of music that I love. That's not to say I don't want more, but I've got plenty of great songs to fall back on.
The weirdest thing, aside from the ~seven-year gap between albums, is the near complete radio silence from band members on new music throughout all this time. For previous albums, they'd post clips from the studio, give semi-frequent updates, talk about it on podcasts/interviews, play new music live, release an early demo, etc. This time? Almost nothing, for years, aside from a few generic "New music is coming!" posts from the official band accounts. The pandemic was a valid delay, though countless bands/artists worked on, completed and released new music since then. Everything they've done for years makes it seem like they're way more interested in living off old music, collabs, playing festivals and joining tours with mismatched bands like TEB to make money. I can't blame them for doing what makes sense financially, but as a long-time fan, the very visible complete lack of interest in new music has been disappointing and makes me dubious about new music whenever we get it. It's a pessimistic view, but at this point that's where I'm at.
Part of why I like mentioning New Again is that I genuinely like it and always have. But, it’s also just funny that such an innocuous, “fine” album somehow became polarizing in this community, lol. You’d think it’d be this sloppy piece of garbage, or massive reinvention, or ambitious experiment, but it’s just… a very basic rock album by the band Taking Back Sunday. It feels like the hyperbolic reactions were a bit back in ‘09 that just somehow crystallized into a “genuine” reaction.
Yep. It's overall a pretty solid radio rock album with some interesting flourishes sprinkled thoughout (probably some of Fazzi's influence). Has some great songs, has some duds. But overall it's decent.
I have been saying this for years and years and years now, but I really do think they are completely complacent with just cruising through the rest of their lives living off their first three albums. Unlike a lot of other bands that came from this era, or soon after, their fans (outside of this site) are not clamoring for new music, and don't care to hear anything post Louder Now at shows. I am not sure how much time and energy and and attention and money they are willing to put into something that will not really have a lasting effect with the majority of their fan base, and something they will not fall back on much live, if at all, on future tours. It makes more sense for them to continue touring and making money off tours while playing their 'hits' and songs that 98% of the fans came to see. I wish just as much as anyone else on here that they'd release a new album (or ideally, a few new albums within the past 7 years), but I see where they are coming from. For whatever reason, the majority of their fan base never caught on with much of anything after Louder Now. A lot of that has to do with their own doing with all the line-up changes and whatnot, and then releasing a very bad album once they had everyone's attention again following the Nolan/Cooper reunion. This is all coming from someone who adored Happiness Is and Tidal Wave.
I’ve always loved New Again and never really understood the hate. I think it’s a great spring album. Self-titled is also probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite, depending on the day. Seeing myself out now.
Dropping all hyperbole, I just think it’s boring and the lyrics do nothing for me. Which is a massive hit on an album for me. Quickest way to lose me.
I only bought New Again because AltPress gave it 5 stars and did a spread framing the band as being “back” even though the two albums before it were more successful.
My take on the gap is I think a lot of people are underestimating the effect of losing a founding member and then the pandemic that just killed their momentum. We don't know their personal lives in terms of who was more weary of covid and getting together in person and for how long, whether someone has a preexisting condition or their kid or parents have preexisting conditions, etc. So once it got to 3, 4 years, they probably just said fuck it, let's slow it down and tkae our time with this one and see what we can come up with.
John was actually pretty vocal about this. Either his wife or child has a preexisting condition, which was a big reason they did not get together during the pandemic to write/record and they said it was important for them to all be in the same room together and not do it remotely. So I think the pandemic effected them more than other artists/bands.
i like New Again just fine. but, this thread has somehow become it being brought up every other page. really hoping for new music soon!
