New Again was underwhelming when it came out but as aged very well. Banger after banger until you hit the run of C-titled songs which are all uniformly not good (except Jenny, love that one, don’t get the hate - the following 3 all have uglier melodies or riffs). Record picks back up with EMG. It’s a great singalong record.

S/T is easily their worst but gave us 3 top tier tracks, especially Falling. It’s also never as bad as I remember when I listen to it. Except Money.

HI is their magnum opus but has the black eye that is like you do

Tidal Wave is a great progression from HI but I haven’t revisited it as much. A bit too much filler.

New Again is great and Carpathia is among their top 5 songs easily

The title track of NA is probably in my top 5 of songs that the lyrics absolutely ruin the song for me lol

Why do people like cut me up jenny

Adam sounds like he’s trying to get the final shit out and is in excruciating pain once he does. It’s the worst he’s ever sounded

music is fine, but that vocal part is unjustifiably bad

somehow everyone hears everything differently. i think it's a perfect song for what it is.

This thread encapsulates what I hate about music discussion. It always boils down to "this song/album/band/genre sucks and here's why with charts and graphs as I have done exhausting research on this topic".

I love the guitars in Jenny. And while I get the critique of the vocals, I like push and pull his vocals do between the verses and choruses. Does a lot of different styles on that song and they work for me.

  14. Cut Me Up Jenny is a bop

I don’t think New Again is actively bad, it’s just not very memorable.

I think more of their music is good rather than bad, it's just when it's bad it tends to stick out like a sore thumb. Like egregiously so haha

I’ve probably said it somewhere on here before, but TBS is one of very few bands that I listen to where I say I like them, yet I could list a ton of songs I actively hate. Like, I could also list a ton of songs I love. But for me, they’re the only band that can have an incredible song between two total trash songs. They only have 2 albums where I would say I like every song on it. No other band I choose to listen to is this way for me. It’s odd.

Happy Body Slow Brain and Rare Futures are both excellent, glad to see some love for those projects. Regardless of what you think of New Again, I would HOPE we can all agree that he’s a very talented musician… I would definitely argue he wasn’t fully utilized in his time in TBS.

Oh absolutely. It’s not close for me either.

For me, every album has at least one song where I look at it and wonder how it even made it out of the demoing stage. I love WYWTB but skip New American Classic every time. Putting it right after The Union on the tracklisting, too? Insane (though I guess it makes sense as the end of the A side but I don’t have to agree with it)

New American Classic is beautiful, one of my favorites and really fun to play on guitar

I don’t hate it. It’s just not that engaging for me. As far as TBS goes, it’s fairly inoffensive.

New American Classic is the goat TBS slow song for me. One of the only ones I actually love from them.
