Absolutely ahead of it's time. If Soul Punk was re-released today under the Fall Out Boy name, it would be huge. Spotlight should've been a hit too.
Swing, Summer Man, Lonely Lonely and Everything Must Go are all I have any use for from that album. Carpathia is overrated
The highest praise I can give New Again is that it’s listenable. I listen to it when I do a full TBS discog run. I don’t want to die when the songs play. That’s the best I can do.
just scrolling back through the thread and clicking Like on everyone who is defending New Again. It's a great album and Fazzi is the best singer this band ever had, but horrifically underutilized during his time in the band. The Happy Body Slow Brain album is better than every TBS album since NA. And I love Happiness Is. In a dream world, I think a Fred, Fazzi, Rubano, Will Noon project would absolutely shred.
Love to see Happy Body Slow Brain get the praise it deserves. They made a second album under the name Rare Futures, but they've been quiet for like 5 years now.
Tidal Wave is awful and I like parts of New Again, but that isn't that good either. Self Titled has It Doesn't Feel A Thing Like Falling.
Fazzi’s a good singer for a band that isn’t taking back sunday, imo, and I don’t think his voice sounded great with Adam’s. I don’t know what’s going on with Rare Futures but Isaac, who played with Fazzi in both that and hbsb, has a new project with Tyson Ritter. He was touring with TBS while Fazzi was in the band, then went on to be a touring musician with Seal, Banks, Harry Hudson, and Glassjaw from time to time, I think?
No more time talk. Next thing you're gonna tell me is that Louder Now came out in 2006 and I refuse to believe any of you.
New Again was underwhelming when it came out but as aged very well. Banger after banger until you hit the run of C-titled songs which are all uniformly not good (except Jenny, love that one, don’t get the hate - the following 3 all have uglier melodies or riffs). Record picks back up with EMG. It’s a great singalong record. S/T is easily their worst but gave us 3 top tier tracks, especially Falling. It’s also never as bad as I remember when I listen to it. Except Money. HI is their magnum opus but has the black eye that is like you do Tidal Wave is a great progression from HI but I haven’t revisited it as much. A bit too much filler.
