I had to double check but I remember being surprised that they had gone into that summer tour in 2016 without an album announcement, and I feel like we might be looking at a similar situation. The Taste of Chaos tour started June 3, but we didn’t get any news of Tidal Wave (including an official recording of the song) until late June, and that album came out in mid-September? They did that club tour and played the album in full for that release, which was a lot of fun. I wouldn’t hate it if they did something similar for this album.
Yeah I saw them in one of the smallest rooms i’ve ever seen them in for the Tidal Wave show on long island. It ruled.
Damn, really? That’s such a bummer. There’s gotta be close to nowhere left to play on Long Island outside of the Paramount and Mulcahys. Ive gone up to Mulcahys for the TBS holiday shows but it’s not the same as say the Crazy Donkey was (or maybe I’m just older and jaded now).
We still haven't done the TBS Mulcahys show despite it being in my wife's hometown because of timing and/or the pandemic. I hope they keep it up though.
Yeah, long island definitely needs some more mid-tier venues, a lot of smaller bars (89 North and Stereo Garden in Patchogue are great but, not booking big acts due to smaller capacity). The Paramount is almost too big for a lot of the bands we'd want to see there. Mulcahys is great since they completely re-did it and opened up the new side bar area. it used to be so dingy and crappy lol. The Donkey ruled RIP to a legend. cant believe its a buffalo wild wings now. I guarantee they've got it locked in every year going forward before the NJ shows, they're an absolute blast.
It is still there! Every now and then bands come in and fill that place up. Bayside, the Sleeping, and Avalanche have all played there in the last few years.
I think the plan is to keep Mulcahys on the list for the holiday shows. It’s an easy long weekend for them where they’re guaranteed to sell out four nights. This last year went a lot better at Mulcahys than the first (the first year for some reason, Mulcahys was doing drinks in actual glass?). I know that they said they would like to bring the pop up/acoustic set during Saturday back for the next holiday show (so this year). I also hope they keep up with changing the setlists around. I think one good thing about that TBS20 tour was they learned which songs really resonate with the crowd. After the crowd got them to play Photograph by singing it (and then this past year, it getting the loudest cheer on the opening chord), maybe they’ll start putting some variety in the set.
lol yeah mulcahys the first year was a semi disaster mostly because the line to check vaccination cards went a mile down the road, I missed most of straylight run because we were standing in the Vax line for like an hour
I would be pretty surprised if we didn't at least have a single prior to the summer tour. They've hinted at playing new music for the tour several times within the past month or so.
My guess; announcement, pre orders, single - april 2nd song right before tour starts in early july release august what odds does vegas give this same game parlay
the gap between albums is almost as long as john and shauns break from the band, to put in crazy context
Yeah this is a crazy way to look at it. I know the pandemic didn’t help but that they didn’t—as far as we can tell—attempt to pivot to doing virtual writing sessions was interesting to me. I know they were very insistent that they liked writing in one room together, but at the cost of losing so many years? I also know they had been talking about recording in late 2018, but delayed it to do the big tour in 2019. That makes financial sense if they make most of their money from touring, especially with the album play gimmick, and nobody could predict that the touring industry would be shut down for nearly 2 years. I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m hoping that long break and everything they’ve done since then (writing with The Maine and Steve Aoki) maybe gave them a refreshed perspective on things? And I like that they’re working with a completely new-to-them producer. I don’t know if after so many years Sapone would still be the best fit for them.
What does this even mean? They toured a ton from 2016-2019 and then toured quite a bit even after touring came back. They chose to tour instead of writing/recording a new music because 95% of their fanbase doesn't care about new music. We, on this forum, are in the minority of people looking forward to new TBS material and 99% of the people going to their shows just give a shit about TAYF - LN. They are not a band that is going to profit, or excel in popularity, with new music.
This wasn’t a comment about them touring instead of new music, but that they just seemed to have no interest in figuring out how to work on new music virtually while they couldn’t tour (and who knows if they didn’t try or not but they definitely used it as an excuse when people on their socials have asked why it’s been so long). Especially because people do think of them as a touring nostalgia band and only want to hear TAYF, and they’ve spent so many years trying to say they’re not. It was more like a “I can’t believe it’s been nearly 7 years since the last record but I can understand how the time passed”
But also who knows if they had ever planned to get in the studio in 2020 prior to the pandemic hitting. The MCR tour had been on the schedule, and that got delayed a few times, so it’s likely they wouldn’t have been in a studio until 2021ish anyway, and why work on an album during the pandemic if you know you won’t be able to tour on it properly until after prior obligations pass? Idk I’m talking myself in circles now. I just would like new music or concrete news of new music soon
