Yeah they’ve been teasing the recording here and there for the better part of a year now. Around Adam’s birthday last year they were in the studio with Tushar Apte, if I remember right. (This is based off of my memory of Instagram stories so don’t hold me to this)
He has such an interesting array of credits (from writing and composing to producing) that I’m very curious to see where this goes. More interesting than another Sapone record, in my opinion. edit: I also believe he said this was the first time he’s worked with a band, too. They’ve always said they have a pretty democratic writing process and everybody gets an equal say. It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out because it’s also the first record without Eddie, so one less opinion to consider
I would be so pissed. I would however be incredibly interested in (and I know this will be controversial) a New Again (TBS’s Version)
Actually, today I was trying to picture what a re-recorded TAYF would have sounded like if Warner got their way. I’m glad it never happened but it had me curious for sure
It would have sounded embarrassing for a group of men who were, at the time, in their 30s honestly. But now you’ve got me thinking—would they change the lyrics on a re-recording to what Adam sings live now or would it be a true copy like Taylor’s?
My prediction is I think they really want a hit and will probably have a song or two that goes in the direction of that Maine song and hoping to get some miles out of it.
They've definitey veered away from some of their pop sensibilities for sure....but I don't think all the hanging out with Aoki (and I thought I read the Maine as well? maybe I'm making that up?) is for just friendly reasons. Probably getting some creative juices flowing
Yeah they said in the Instagram live that they did with the maine that they had used the Maine’s studio for a little over the summer (I think they had an off day in the general area) and Adam mentioned looking through John O’s stuff or something to that effect. The Maine also posted a video of them working on something together around that same time (so after LYAL) on their pillar. I saw on Reddit the other day that somebody messaged the producer and he said it was different from their last couple of records so who knows? based on what they’ve said about the recording process (I think during that same ig live they were in the process of doing final mixes?) a summer release could also just be a realistic timeline. If they want to do preorders and have a vinyl pressing come out close to around the same time as the official release date (unlike, say, Andrew McMahon), they probably have to factor in turn around time for that. I don’t know how all that works, though.
Back in 2019 or something like that John said they weren’t presently signed to a label. Hopeless Records still lists them on their page, but they haven’t promoted anything to do with them lately (not that they did even while they were definitely still signed), and TBS has scrubbed hopeless from their own website. It’s possible they’re also seeing if somebody will pick them up, but I have to imagine they have the connections now to self release.
if the record truly is only in the mixing stage, we're still a ways away from an announcement. if the album is in this stage of production, id wager an announcement and a single right before the summer tour so they can promote it all summer, late summer release and then fall/winter album support world tour.
