Mark has written a bunch of TBS classics and I’d argue his drumming style is a pretty important part of their sound.
Really wondering if there's something to this... If he's the reason for all the bad blood/tension with members, perhaps things aren't as peachy as it seems in their camp. At this point I just want some new tunes from these guys. Could care less to watch them live anymore.
odd takes in here. the mark/fred beef is well known, but seems incredibly weird to pin all the drama on mark.
Fred (guitar/vox), Rubano (bass/vox), Fazzi (guitar/keys/vox), Reyes (slammin guitar), and Josh Eppard (the beats) would be more delightful. 3 headed guitar monster and 3 vocal harmonies in a supergroup that could DEFINITELY pull it off and not have it be a gimmick like x3EB or whatever they’re called haha
Every story has multiple sides of course. But talking to Fred, Rubano, and Eddie about their experiences left me with the clear impression that the guy is kind of a jerk (I've never met him though)
Also wasn't Adam going to be part of Fred's Louder Now 15 year lookback video, but Mark squashed that?
A band of ex-TBS members would be sooo much better than the real TBS, which is pretty hilarious to think about.
Eh I've never really been able to get into anything Fred did outside of TBS and I've tried He's obviously super talented though
The Fred/Rubano era of TBS was interesting. As the oral history supported in 2011, both Fred and Matt were genuinely talented musicians and probably pushed the band in ways that made them better. However, the original guys must have resented that thus the fallout.
Fazzi is one of the more talented people to ever be in the band, but he was terrible for this specific band and didn't fit in. Fred is... Fine I guess, nothing he's done outside this bend had been terribly interesting or memorable. Straylight Run is early the best TBS related content and John and Shaun are back in the band anyway.
I really enjoyed that Terrible Things album. Wasn’t keen on The Color Fred much though. Agree Fazzi is/was awesome. Sucks it didn’t work out. He sounds fucking amazing on that live from Orensanz album.
Half of The Color Fred album is great - even if it does sound like a bunch of TBS throwaways Terrible Things, as a whole, is pretty terrific. Wish Fred kept going, but he really seemed to slow things down after that TT album.
the Terrible Things album was great. And Fazzi's Happybodyslowbrain album was fantastic too. Fred was the best thing to happen to TBS in my opinion. Insanely talented songwriter and guitarist....but I also dont think he has the voice to be a frontman, and that's why his career never took off post TBS.
go back to Orensanz and Live at Bamboozle and just in awe of his voice. he completely changes those songs bizarre to not utilize that on New Again
i'm not sure if this is common knowledge but there's not a single drum fill on the entire where you want to be record.
As a drummer, that fact blew my mind considering I’ve played along to that record so many times. I love that Mark made up for it subsequent records, though.
Not sure if it’s common, but it is out there. I know Adam spoke about it during the 20 years tour. He said Mark now adds fills in live. The rest of the band never knows when or what fill he will play, Adam was saying it always catches him by surprise and how much he loves it.
