Yeah Mulcahys might be the 2nd biggest spot on the island for a show like this. They can pretty easily sell out the Paramount, but I think the Mulcahy's choice was just because it was there last year and they can probably lock in a wednesday/thursday set of dates there for the next however many years, because their calendar is not usually full of anything more than cover band acts and your odd big act who couldnt quite fulfil the paramount's requirements. I love that it's literally right on my train line, a perfect situation for me lol
We saw Dan Andriano solo acoustic somehwere up there too in a smaller, dive bar type place. Wish I could remember the name. Maybe it was a smaller room in Paramount but I don’t really remember if it had a small room like that
Looking forward to TBS promoting their newest album, Tidal Wave, for the 6th Holiday Spectacular in a row at the 8th Annual Holiday Spectacular!
To put that into perspective, Yellowcard put out their final album, had their final tour, and put on their triumphant reunion show since then.
For like, the dozenth time, the pandemic had a MAJOR impact on the album cycle. It's well known they were about to write/record early 2020 and then pandemic happened and with them living all over the country, it was not feasible for them to work on the album for a good portion of the rest of the year and probably into 2021. Then, once touring was allowed again, they probably found it more lucrative to tour and make money instead of writing/recording an album that 90% of their fans wouldn't want to hear live anyway. While this would not happen, a small, small, small part of me wonders if they're looking at what B**** N** did and saying, 'hey, those guys didn't release an album for 8 years and when it dropped it was No. 1' and maybe thinking the more amount of time between albums, the more success it would lead to. That would be insanely doubtful though because TBS doesn't have the crazy cult-like following that BN had though, so they would never garner that much success at this point of their career no matter how much time it takes for them to follow-up on TW.
I mean, there are several bands that were going to release an album in the last two years that were forced to sit on it until a more logical time. It's not that much of a stretch to assume the same of TBS. Times are hard.
I mean I do think some abstinence to make the heart grow fonder would help at least a little bit with sales. It may also give them more time to write more quality songs. But yeah they don't have the cult following that made that release such a big deal nor do they have the technical chops and sound and reputation that BN had before that album came out. remember they were "america's radiohead" and all that. TBS isn't regarded nearly as high by critics as BN was But 6 years between albums COULD get a good boost here if they've got some good shit ready to go.
Didn't see this post before but lmao same. Took the train to wantagh a lot to see my wife when we were still dating, can still do most of the stops in my head....and always in the voice the LIRR train uses haha
I understand the 'connection' between the latest BN album cycle and TBS - but it's just not quite there. An MBA case study could literally be written by their approach to capitalizing on the leaked demos and the mysterious lead-up to SF. It was unreal and lightning in a bottle in my opinion. I'm not intending to gush - I feel it's an objective fact that it was a unique 5 years and am fine not discussing any further. TBS just never seem to go away without adding any substance. Reissues of the debut, greatest hits record, a weezer cover, and features get old. I don't know what the right answer is, but I'm not sure what would appease fans with LP8. I can't even say what would satisfy me. A complete reinvention of their sound? What would that even look like?
Let people complain about how long they’re taking. It changes absolutely nothing. We really don’t need essays defending it. Some complaints aren’t rational and that’s okay. Just move on.
You know, you're totally right. However, there's just something inside me that wants them to succeed. They were the band that got me into emo when before it was just pop-punk. I owe a lot of my musical influence to them. So I guess, it just hurts when they're not making that impact on me anymore. It's the same with Blink. I want them to keep creating something special because how much they meant to me, and still do. edit: not succeed with like fame/success. Succeed in making something amazing.
John in that Rock Sound magazine they did for the 20 year anniversary of TAYF: “…right now, as we work on new music, we are very much excited about what we are doing now. There is a realization that we have to make something exciting to people as it is exciting to us. We can’t just put something else out and expect everybody to be psyched because it’s a new TBS album.” anyway, do with that what you will
