not by any traditional standard. Take his time w/ CSN for example. they couldn’t stand his singing because he couldn't hold notes, he was flat, singing out of key all the time. I love his voice. I love his singing. I think he’s great, but he wasn’t a great singer.
Weird, I just never personally noticed him (Neil) sing off key, but that's admittedly from a small sample of videos
I mean, find a different band to see live if that matters so much to you. It's only rock n' roll, who gives a shit.
As long as he sounds good on the records that’s really all I care about. You know, pending they ever put another one out.
I kinda of agree but it’s also a weird take to be like let the band sound like absolute shit live who cares it’s rock n roll! I can’t roll into my desk job and say I’m giving it 20% because that’s the health insurance industry babbbby!
Yeah, I think being okay with a band sucking live because "it's just rock and roll" is both a weird take to have and an insult to the rock bands who actually try to give their audience a good performance.
mixed feelings on that. on one hand rock n roll is supposed to be dirty and messy. on the other, it's okay to just hang it up if you don't have the chops anymore. tbs don't have to prove anything to anyone, they already paid their dues.
This got me thinking who are some of the tightest bands i’ve seen live. Gang of Youths, Coldplay, and The Night Game are probably my top 3.
They can also keep playing live for as long as they want to and the people who think they suck can just not come to the shows lol. It’s a reach to compare a rock band to your desk job.
I drove 8 hours to see Manchester Orchestra back in February and yea, it was worth it and then some. I saw Fleet Foxes a month ago too and that is a band that sounds incredible live. I'm not too into their music, but the songs took on another life for me.
What? The caliber of performance of TBS has nothing to do with other bands that are doing things well. It’s not an insult to just keep existing as a band just because your live performances suck.
Might be recency bias but I just saw Alexisonfire headline last night, a band of similar age to TBS and they had some of the best energy and stage presence for a 20+ year old post-hardcore band, plus the stamina to sound amazing for the entirety of a nearly 2 hour set. different genre but I feel like it really shouldnt be too much to ask for tbs to hold it together for like 30-45 min a night at this point in their careers.
You took my post in a weird direction. I didn't mean it's an insult for TBS to keep touring when they suck live, I mean it's an insult for a fan to dismiss the quality of a performance as not important because it's "just rock and roll".
