Wow that might be the worst one I’ve heard. Is it mean to see who could find the worst performance? Before seeing that tweet, I’d say “drop it man.” However…that video has to take the cake or at least top 5.
If you search “Taking Back Sunday” on Twitter, you’ll see a lot of discourse about their performances this tour. Da Tweets Iz Talkin
I saw them at Warped Tour back in 2011 and was contemplating on going to this tour, but I'm leaning towards "no" now. I do love this band!
I also actually just saw them for the 20th time earlier this month at Summerfest in Milwaukee. I don’t believe I posted in here, but I guess I’ll make a bigger deal of 25 like Murph!
Pretty sure someone already said this but, someone who's career is dependent on their voice shouldn't be smoking so damn much. Or at all really.
Seriously, I can totally envision a one step down version of MakeDamnSure. Plus the original chorus is so high playing it in a slighty lower key wouldn't be that jarring anyway.
Obviously smoking is not good for your voice, but Adam has never really been a good live singer AND plenty of other musicians who have had longer (or similar length) careers smoke and they don't sound anywhere near this strained.
I wonder why the band doesnt try to make it work for Adam? Like would fans rather hear Adam struggle to sing every line of Liar or MakeDamnSure rather than a slightly altered version? If I went to a concert and they changed up the song that would be way more interesting than what they are failing to do now.
makedamnsure might just be the most demanding vocally, other than something like spin or the ending of one-eighty by summer. To keep it in the original key and have Adam strain every night.. nobody wins. His vocal cords have no time to recover on a tour like this. It's not grit, it sounds painful. They need to adjust to how he sings now. Even his timbre has changed. It lends itself to the newer material well. I mean c'mon Louder Now was released 2006. Just transpose the songs for his vocal health.
On the 20 tour tell all your friends was a whole step down and louder now/where you want to be was a half step down. Tbh these may even be a half step down, while range is an issue it’s also just overall delivery. Even the lower parts sound really bad, it’s all fake vibrato and it doesn’t sound natural. I think a vocal coach could help him? Idk. I just feel like it’s very much a choice to sound like this and not an ability issue, which has me worried that it will never get better.
Even during the TAYF days, Adam wasn’t a good singer. He just yelled shit. Unfortunately it doesn’t always translate to the bigger shows where the sound equipment is better. I kinda compare it to Neil Young. He’s a terrible singer by all standards, but I like it and the songs are good. disclaimer: I know Neil is iconic and not even in the same league, but he always comes to mind when I think of bad singers that I love.
someone said it in another thread maybe, but you don't go to taking back sunday for a good vocal performance, you go for the crowd sing along.
Lol Adam just seems to care less about singing the songs properly than Tom Delonge ever did. Which is quite a feat
I've seen TBS like 10 times back in the early 2000's, he was never a good singer but he could still sing the songs and it was a blast. As far as that clip, holy hell. Well, I'm going tomorrow I'll bring back a little video to compare. I don't need him to sound good, I'll be singing, but lord I hope he gets the words out at least so the song at least sounds like the song being played. I'm equally psyched for 3EB so hopefully I get my enjoyment.
