Pretty cool seeing these guys play huge amphitheater/arena settings again. Don’t think I’ve seen them play to huge crowds like this since their Louder Now tour with AVA.
I clicked on that video expecting it to be way worse. That's pretty much par for the course for Adam/TBS. As I mentioned yesterday, TBS is still fun for die-hard fans and fans that grew up with them because at this point, most of their show is an energetic sing along. But if you're not a TBS fan, or you're seeing them for the first time, it's likely a brutal experience.
I've seen them at least 15 times. Only once was it a total disaster, but that was because they were playing a venue way too big for them, and it was like 10% full and the sound was horrid and the energy sucked and you could tell the band was not into it. The other times, I can barely even hear the band over the entire crowd going bonkers.
The only terrible part of that video is the high note in the first line of the chorus. The rest is pretty standard TBS in 2022 – which is to say, it's objectively not good, but fun and cathartic.
I'm just really happy that Adam has not given us heavy doses of his live vibrato-esque(?) singing style on an album. It's not my favorite. He might just do that live as a way to preserve his voice over the course of a 30+ date tour. Though he did bring that style to the opening verse of Just Us Two and I'm hoping that's not a sign of things to come.
For everyone claiming he sounded great when they saw them live, I think it's harder to pick up on vocals like you can in these videos. The crowd is typically singing along to every word, and the venue acoustics tend to let the guitars and rhythm sections overpower it. When I saw them do Louder Now in it's entirety in 2019 I thought he sounded fantastic, and then when I watched back the IG stories I had posted.....WOOF. It sounds like they're still playing You're So Last Summer in it's original tuning. They should really play their old stuff a whole step down so it matches his register now.
Fred is still giving 110% and sounds great. No one can objectively say the same for adam and john these days.
I didn’t hate that video. I also don’t hate that first verse in Just Us Two. I’ve seen TBS live a handful of times and always enjoyed it! As mentioned a few posts back though, I’m not expecting to be mind blown. I always prefer shitty vocalists though too.
I’ve never had any real complaints about John. I think he’s good. Adam is a whole other story, but that dude loves his cigarettes lmao
Yeah Adam has to give up the smokes. john seems to hold back sometimes from doing some of his screams/high notes, probably because he doesn’t wanna shred his throat haha
Man those videos are fucking terrible. I’d be pissed if I paid for that shit. Adam shows up and gives it 3% and gets paid.
Having your voice be your entire livelihood and still deciding to smoke heavily for decades is certainty an interesting choice that I've never understood, but I've been watching them live for 15 years and they always brought the energy and put in the effort. I've never been disappointed leaving a TBS show. Also, they're all in their 40s now. I don't expect Adam to be hanging from the rafters, crowdsurfing and beating the hell out of himself every night. It's not realistic to maintain that. It's a bummer if some of these recent shows have been lackluster, but I haven't seen this tour and live concert videos never do much for me so IDK.
