But yeah wasn’t that referred to in the big interview back in 2011? They accused The Matt’s of changing and re-recording shit in the studio behind their backs or what not?
Does anyone else remember how when Matt Rubano was in the band he was basically the leader when it came to any and all press? He’d be the one controlling the conversation from TBS’ side. I remember thinking at the time, “What’s the replacement bass player doing taking lead in all these interviews?” Now it’s very much the Adam and John show. Seemed like Adam and the rest of the TAYF members just weren’t confident enough at the time when it came to that side of the job and I can imagine what started as “hey man, can you talk” eventually turned into “he’s trying to take over the band speaking for us and shit.”
I also thought that was weird back in the day. He was a very public part of the band, and There were a ton of Adam and Rubano interviews during those years. In that podcast he did a few years ago he mentioned having to handle a lot of the “business” side of things because no one else would
IMO Matt is just better at talking than the other guys and fell into that role kind of naturally. I think he said he wanted to be a comedian or a radio broadcaster and you can really tell (IIRC he's done stints as both)
I was in an improv practice group and Matt Rubano showed up. I looked at him and I'm like Oh shit its Matt Rubano, I think! Then we all introduced ourselves and he said his name was Matt. I was geeked out and confirmed it was in fact him. He didn't seem too thrilled with the TBS topic being brought up so I just dropped it there. He talked about being a professional musician but left out the TBS part initially. Funny and nice guy though in my short experience being around him. Doesn't mean much but just a tidbit to share. Sounds like a copypasta but I swear it's not! lol.
watched the LN 15 Years Later video and wow. Eric Valentine did so much on that record. it really would've been an entirely different album if not for him
I like this band. They’re a big part of my nostalgia from HS. Haven’t visited NA or the s/t in years, and I might check em out again. They came out after HS, and I wasn’t as into the band then.
Wasn't there once a music video that started out with some disclaimer like "due to contracts issues, tbs can no longer perform live in their music videos"
I don't believe so? The closest thing I can recall is the video for "You Got Me" that's just Eddie dancing.
Yep it was the Set Phasers to Stun video. I remember even big publications were running stories about Taking Back Sunday retiring from music videos. Which looking back is so idiotic and clickbaity, it was clearly a joke!
