the weezer covering TBS album would be better versions of those songs bc the band is better at their instruments and the TBS covering weezer album would be better than most actual TBS songs because rivers is a better songwriter
So I never gave The Color Fred much of a listen, but he put out a video for his "Hate To See You Go" and I hadn't heard it in a long time and...yeah that would have made a killer TBS song with dual vocals and etc
The Color Fred album is pretty good, especially the first half. In the Oral History of TBS article, Adam talks about The Color Fred and Adam said he was disappointed that it all sounded like TBS songs.
Yeah, he definitely just is perfect for that 2nd vocalist/lead guitarist role instead of being the lead guy
Yeah I don't hear that at all, it's not the same vibe. I could never see Fred-era TBS make "Hate To See You Go" or even "If I Surrender". Those songs would sound totally out of place on WYWTB and especially on LN.
The Terrible Things album and the Pre Transmission EP he put out shortly after are definitely some of his best work. The Color Fred has a few duds, but If I Surrender, Hate To See You Go and Complaintor are all great songs that would've fit in perfectly on Louder Now.
I guess they both have guitars and a vocalist named Fred Mascherino on them. That's kind of where the similarities end.
I can't speak for the entire album, but there are definitely some songs on The Color Fred album that remind me of TBS. I can absolutely hear TBS on If I Surrender, Get Out, Hate To See You Go, Complaintor. Fred does his own duel vocals on many of the songs, and some of them have the classic TBS breakdowns with the big finishes. I think it's fair to say that some of the songs were probably written for TBS or while he was in TBS (the album came out the same month he left TBS). Even Adam said he was intrigued when he heard Fred was putting out a solo album and was disappointed when he heard it because he said it sounded like TBS songs.
I don't doubt Fred wrote some or all of the songs while he was working on TBS stuff, but the final result of the songs doesn't fit the TBS sound regardless of how they started. They certainly don't sound like TBS b-sides (because TBS b-sides still sound like TBS songs). Also Adam can think that if he wants, he's allowed to be wrong lol
agreed with steve, yuck. hate to see you go would absolutely fit in on louder now, it just would be one of the worst songs on the album
I could absolutely see If I Surrender as a tbs song. Not so much WYWTB era but it definitely shares some similarities with the direction Louder Now was going in. I see it a bit in Hate To See You Go as well.
