Been doing a discography playthrough these past two days. Happiness Is always surprises me, definitely like it more than I remembered. But who the hells idea was it to leave off How I Met Your Mother, and keep on Like I Do?? Self Titled is still really tough to listen to. Some good moments for sure, but lyrically it feels so lazy.
i meant to say this when we were talking about "sleep" and "brooklyn" a few pages back, but a version of louder now with those tracks included would be my favorite tbs album no contest as it is it's between where you want to be and happiness is
WYWTB being #1 and S/T being last are probably my only certain same answer every time rankings. I go through phases and moods with all the others.
Well I just listened through my ranking and man that was heavy lol I’d add Brooklyn and winter passing as b sides too!
Okay I did it You Know How I Do Bonus Most Pt II A Decade Under The Influence Fences It Takes More They Don't Have Any Friends Spin One-Eighty By Summer You're So Last Summer Carpathia ...Slowdance On The Inside I'll Find A Way To Make It What You Want I surprised myself with some of these choices. I think I ended up with one song from each album except the self-titled. Though it was between Slowdance and Call Me In The Morning there and I almost went CMITM. I think if Adam had another shot at those vocals, it would be just a hair better. Other close calls were We Were Younger Then v Your So Last Summer, Spin v Call Come Running and Swing v It Takes More v All Excess.
I do really love It Takes More and All The Way...they just couldn’t compete with the other songs in those slots for me
It's funny, when the self-titled came out I remember loving Adam's vocals. It was obvious from live performances and certain takes on New Again that his voice had changed and couldn't keep up with his style on the first three albums. On the self-titled it seemed like he finally embraced a different style and it was cool to hear. But looking back at it now... it can be very grating on a lot of songs. He found a much better way to use his voice on HI and TW.
My mind is absolutely blown right now. So, I didn't get into The Gaslight Anthem or Brian Fallon until the past few years and I was just looking at some of the setlists of the TBS shows I've been to and the 2015 Cleveland show I was at, TBS brought out Brian Fallon during Decade Under the Influence. I remember that show (because they closed their first set with It Takes More, which was awesome) but absolutely don't recall the Fallon appearance, although admittedly, back then, it wouldn't have meant anything to me. I just did some research to see why Brian Fallon was even at the show (because he definitely wasn't on the bill) and it was because TGA had a show in Cleveland the following night and Fallon got to Cle early. Damn. Taking Back Sunday Setlist at House of Blues, Cleveland Watch Taking Back Sunday perform "A Decade Under The Influence" with Gaslight Anthem's Brian Fallon - Alternative Press
Yea, I can understand this take on their recent work. Tidal Wave in particular is one of their more straightforward records. For me, it was the duel vocals, the energy, the raw/less glossy production, and the unique song structures that really pulled me in. It all stood out from the crowded pop-punk/emo scene at the time.
I've never really gotten into Gaslight. I enjoy a handful of songs, but I don't often feel compelled to listen to their albums more than once.
yeah, I get them wanting to make that jump, but - similarly to TWY - they lack the talent to stand up with the bands they sound like now. whereas in the more scene sound, they were actually pretty forward thinking.
this was me for like, a decade. I tried so many times during their heyday to get into them and just couldn’t. Then about 3 years ago I stumbled across Sleepwalkers and fell in love with it, then went to Painkillers and liked that even more. Figured since I liked those Fallon solo albums I’d like TGA and tried to get into them again and still couldn’t. I don’t know what happened but when the pandemic started and I was locked at home and bored AF they started coming up a lot on my playlists and I just dug in again and for whatever reason they all of a sudden clicked for me. Weird.
