Same. If I had to pick only one song from that album to listen to, it would be "Sink Into Me" for sure.
My TBS album closer ranking is probably... 1. Slowdance on the Inside 2. Everything Must Go 3. Nothing At All 4. Head Club 5. Call Me In the Morning 6. I'll Let You Live 7. I'll Find a Way to Make It What You Want TBH I've listened to the last two on that list very sparingly. Could probably count on two hands.
Was just reading up on the writing/recording on New Again and was shocked to see that they went with the producer who had done the then most recent Paul McCartney record. Don't know how they thought McCartney's producer would capture their sound.
I think all their closers are strong. Slowdance and I'll Let You Live are two of their best songs, period. I'll Find a Way and Call Me In the Morning are both incredible. EMG and Nothing At All are rock solid. Head Club doesn't seem like a traditional closer, but try not screaming every lyric on the top of your lungs while driving when it comes on.
One one hand---yes I agree, it would be interesting to hear the song with a more accomplished quiet singing voice for sure. On the other---He actaully doesn't sound bad on the song, LN is probably when his voice was strongest I think since Fred's professionalism had kind of rubbed off on him. And the kind of strained quiet vocals fit the song pretty well I think.
Agreed on Head Club. The song itself is very Eh....in fact it's probably the weakest song on TAYF....but goddamn if you're not screaming "DON'T CALL MY NAME OUT YOUR WINDOW I'M LEAVING" along with it....lol It just bores from the very start. Adam doing that quiet singing that phaynes is talking about with Divine Intervention, except his voice isn't as good these days lol. I honestly can't even remember what the last half of the song sounds like right now, I'll have to give it another listen to see if something catches me again. You should def change that ASAP. They are, IMO, the best albums they've done since Fred left. I might even rank them above Louder Now tbh. DOn't have the same hooks/highs as LN but overall very strong albums IMO. I personally think Happiness Is is the better overall album, but I think Tidal Wave has stronger highs.
Happiness Is and Tidal Wave are both excellent and at this point of my life, would rather listen to those TBS albums than probably any other ones.
Happiness Is always felt more fleshed out and realized than Tidal Wave. Some of the songs on TW seemed half baked from a lyrical and melody standpoint.
