I like how they at least said some positive things about it because lyrically this album was a good step forward
Yesterday Blink-182’s EOTS turned 20. Today New Again turns 10 and Hawthorne Heights’ Skeletons turns 9. June is awesome. But fuck I’m old
I remember convincing my mom to drive me to Best Buy so I could get New Again on the day it came out, it was during my first high school finals week lol. I spent all summer spinning it
Ten years ago, I wrote a scathing review of New Again on AP.net, and people were so pissed at me. Not everyone, mind you — but I definitely felt the heat lol. What a time. That was the most controversy I’d ever storied up and I was in college at the time, so I think I wound up skipping class just to read all the comments & DMs I received; it was crazy. Looking back, it really isn’t that awful of a record. There are probably two or three songs I’d cut, but there are a couple jams on NA that I’d love for them to keep in the setlist. I mean, “Sink Into Me” was a good-sized hit and they ignore that one too! But hey, if I were TBS, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with looking back on that time in the bands life either.
It doesn’t work for me. Which is also what I can say about the album. But really, the video won’t load.
Lol these videos continue to be so awkward when theyre discussing albums john and shaun werent involved in
That video wasn’t as negative as I’d anticipated it to be, but I really do feel like that album is so much better than the band and their fanbase, as a whole, give it credit for. I really really love New Again lol.
That album was just what I needed at that point in my life. I was in a pretty rough place and it helped a lot.
New Again is solid for what it is. It's a good TBS record, but not as good as others. It almost feels a little rushed. I would have liked to see what that iteration of the TBS lineup did the second time around. For example, the self-titled is definitely not my favorite TBS record, but damn Happiness Is was great and I've really enjoyed TW. Would have loved to see another record with Fazzi just to hear where it went.
They just totally change the subject and barely even talk about them. "Oh yeah Louder now was cool. I was living near this market where I got fresh mangos every morning." "Yeah I was living in Tallahassee walked past a skate park once and saw this woman called Susan do a sweet kick flip". *Video ends*
Yeah, like why even put these out? Would be cool if they talked about favorite songs, Songs that didn’t age well, inspirations, backgrounds, the writing/recording process...literally anything other than whatever that was.
I think New Again would’ve caught on better had they worked with a different producer who was a better fit for their sound.
