I like Tidal Wave more when I pretend it's a different band. Similar to when I listen to Welcome The Night by The Ataris.
This. New Again, Happiness Is..., and Tidal Wave are the TBS that I love. I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing any of the other records.
I think WYWTB will always be my favorite just because of nostalgia, and kind of the same story with TAYF, but I love Tidal Wave. Call Come Running and You Can't Look Back have become two of my favorites from them. Hope they keep going in that direction too, it just fits their identity as a band now. They seem genuinely so excited about the material from Happiness Is and TW and they are pushing themselves, which for me is way more interesting than hearing them try to make a throwback record.
at this far out from the release, i was still listening to happiness is more than i am listening to tidal wave. there are some parts that bore me a bit but i think its very good. HI and WYWTB are my top but tidal and LN vie for #3
I was listening to Where You Want to Be a bit back and it hit me on 'Set Phasers to Stun' that when Fred M. comes in he's kind of got a bit of a Michael Jackson vocal thing going on. Just with the kind of herky jerky style. Absolutely no idea if it was intentional, but I thought it was interesting, I guess.
I can agree with this. John has only been on one album that I enjoy as much as or more than the two Fred records (TAYF). Theres been some really great songs on the past three records but its far less consistent than they used to be.
Don't remember if it's already been confirmed or not but we are getting a new TBS song for the ACLU comp that John Nolan put together. THough honestly "We Don't Go In There" would have worked for it....lol Home | Music For Everyone
Getting another Taking Back Sunday rarity soon. "Just A Man" Music For Everyone / A Compilation To Benefit The ACLU, by Collective Confusion Records, Sub City Records
tbs is a band that I didn't need much of a change in direction after their debut lp. They made changes each album--some call it growth but it was small and thus kept the train moving. Nevertheless, each time pushed them further from the band I loved. Brand New was the opposite, for awhile there each new release made me love them more...until Daisy. Now tbs is a new band entirely, and Brand New lost their ability to not be weird on a song so they simply stopped releasing songs. I'd rather no music than shit music, though. But both these bands best years are far far far behind them
Sorry, don't like that album art at all. Not that the original is any good, but this one isn't either
Damn I love that song but yep Adam sounds painful on it. They should have recorded it in the D# key instead, I would've made it a bit edgier, and Adam could've sounded way better as it fits his range more.
Literally any s/t cover is better than the original. I legit cannot get over how much I love "Holy Water"
It still surprises me how much I loved Tidal Wave. I think it's probably not their best album, but at least their most focused and their most consistent ever. I guess I have so much nostalgia for Louder Now and Happiness Is. New Again isn't far behind. I've never been a fan of Tell All Your Friends and Where You Want To Be, though I prefer the latter. And S/T isn't good at all, save from a few songs. It's insane how the latter's bsides are a thousand times better than the whole record.
