My only contribution to this current convo is El Paso SLAPS. Easily a top 5 reunion era song for me and a great time live.
Live, I’m always down for hearing “El Paso”, but I can’t stand how it sounds on the record. I enjoy most of the songs on s/t, but the EQ is so godawful throughout that entire album, listening is almost a chore for me.
Their S/T is strange for me because I think it sits at the bottom of their discography for me but it contains some of their overall best songs like Best Places, Call me in the Morning and El Paso.
This is All Now and Sad Savior are both good songs, but I wouldn't place them in their "best" category.
Faith is fucking terrible and drops the album down there for me. It's got some great songs but the production sucks and I think the demos are better than most of the album. Best Places, Call Me in the Morning, El Paso, This is All Now, sad
This basically sums it up for me. I don’t even hate Faith but it’s a weaker song. I wish they’d stop playing it live and play one of the other 5 you mentioned
Yeah I love half of S/T and don't care for half much at all. Unevenness isn't that surprising I guess for the first record being back together but they nailed it last two albums
After revisiting S/T, there's only a handful of tracks I don't really enjoy a lot but I really like most of it. I probably listen to everything after and including S/T more than everything before it
I've been saying Faith is terrible on this thread for a while now! So bummed the few times I've seen them since S/T, it's the one song I always get to see live instead of the others
Oh yea it's for sure their most technically impressive. Fazzi really pushed the band to try new things on that one. I think him and Rubano worked really well together on that one.
The bass work Rubano did for this band is honestly some of the best I’ve heard in the genre, maybe the best. He had the most ridiculously tasteful and interesting melodic runs, and was generally really clever about his playing while not being too show-y or straying out of pocket.
We could list p much every song he played on rn tbh Also, idk why, but Sleep and Brooklyn both feel more in line with what they went on to do on NA to me than LN, especially Sleep.
Sleep reminds me of Summer, Man. They also both have like the same exact “YEAH!” yell in the intro lol.
