interesting. this feels like a decent compromise from those wishing for complete re-recordings (plz no.), it will be interesting to hear how TAYF songs sound re-mastered. i'm more excited at the hint of new material though.
I am subbed to his podcast and will probably get it downloaded to my iTunes when I get home tonight. I'll listen to it probably through drives to work, I'll let ya know if anything interesting is said!
-Tells the story of Mark being the one to John and Shaun back into the band -Talks about it being difficult to learn all the WWYTB and LN songs. -Said he really liked MakeDamnSure and its video when he saw it -Talks about moving to Charlotte with Adam -Talks about the biblical story that features Abendigo -Asked about Jesse Lacey, doesn't really comment much, says that the situation sort of influenced some of the themes of Abendigo and that it's great how much the scene has progressed since the dudebro era of 2002/2003 -Says Eddie left for personal reasons and they hope he comes back. Mentions the touring guitarist filling in but said they're not filling Eddie's spot right now That's off the top of my head, someone will probably sum it up far better.
Sounds like he really didn't wanna talk about Jesse. Also, I had no idea that John wrote Brand New's Magazines.
Yeah- I love John but I found the interview to be kind of boring. Perhaps because most of the information I already knew/assumed and he didn't go heavy into certain subjects which is understandable.
Thank you for this haha i cannot listen to a podcast guest where theyre like on speakerphone and staticy, its just an unlistenable product for me lol Also how fucking tired do we think they are 8 years almost 9 years later telling the story of how they reunited
i was actually pretty surprised with how good it was. i was absolutely expecting very bad early 2000s hardcore type of music, especially with that kind of band name lol
Song is okay. Weird vocal mix in the chorus though. Really sounds like those vocals should punch more.
Really wish Shane asked John about his relationship with Fred. John brought The Color Fred out on tour with Straylight Run after Fred left TBS. Would have been interested to hear about that relationship, especially now with John playing the WYWTB/LN albums in full.
Parts of the interview felt so uncomfortable, like there clearly was not any pre-interview conversation about topics, at times it seemed like he really was trying to pry into (for whatever reason) the reasons behind john and shaun leaving the band in the first place. i guess it's expected for the majority of the conversation to be focused on TBS-related questions and discussion but i felt like they barely touched on john's solo career, anything S/R related, it was like, lets spend 5 minutes on your new record and then go right into jesse lacey and why you left the band in the first place. really weird interview.
I was surprised at how Shane kind of went at him with the questions. Did not expect him to try and pry those answers from a 'peer'
Right? It felt less like a general interview and more like someone using their position as a podcast host to finally get closure on their own feelings and wonderings. I did like the fact that someone from TBS was the guest on episode #152.
Yeah Shane made some pretty questionable remarks throughout the entire interview. His comment about some renowned artists basically making things happen on accident was annoying to me.
Like, there's a part in the interview where John says something, when discussing the TBS/Brand New feud (which again why are we bringing that up in 2018??) along the lines of "people tend to dismiss your explanations of events or happenings because they want to believe there is more to the story to satisfy their own curiosity" and i felt like, that's exactly what was happening in the interview. He kept trying to get into reaaaally old issues. TBS did an oral history in AltPress in 2011 and I feel like they did a fucking good, honest job of laying out everything, there should not be any more questions in 2018 and beyond interviews about why people left in 2003 and how they ended up reuniting.
These comments are making me not want to listen haha! Shane being in a band should know better though, he wouldn't like some of those questions. Seems shady. That's the reason why I like his podcast, is because he is in a band and asks more interesting questions instead of the typical interview.
I didn't think Shane was being shady. He was just trying to pry out info from John to make a solid interview. I don't think that's "shady". Now did he ask some tired ass questions? Absolutely and that's why it's a pretty boring interview.
