seems like it was a long time coming. been following him on social media for awhile and it's seemed like he's been battling some demons of his own. wishing the best for Eddie. got to go to the Holiday shows at Starland and his kids were on the side of the stage there with him going nuts and it was the coolest thing in the world. i do think they need a third guitarist up there though. interested to see how they fill his spot.
it would be amazing if they brought back Fred along with the Taking Back Bacon Burger Fries from Denny's.
I confess, I selfishly thought to myself for a moment, “hey, I already know a bunch of songs in their catalog, maybe I should audition!” Like they don’t already have a ton of people they could reach out to to help already haha
Mark pretty much hates Fred. So I don't think that's an option. I'd be interested in Fazzi signing on as a touring guitarist / backup vocalist and keeping Nathan too. That is a total pipe dream, but would be dope. He's such a great performer and it's been really cool seeing him tour with Into It. Over It., The Movielife, EOTC, etc. He adds a lot to those shows.
Adam hates Fazzi as much as Mark hates Fred, this won't happen haha If you can find it online, read AltPress' oral history of TBS from back in 2011, explains a lot of the Fazzi drama.
yeah I've read it a bunch. I didn't really get that Adam hated Fazzi all that much though. just that there were creative differences. i'll have to re-read that portion.
I also don't think they're going to really jump to replace eddie anyway, this isn't a new development, he hasn't played shows with them for almost 2 years, they have done several tours without him and the live shows do not lack anything. I wouldn't be surprised if they just kept Nathan up front and got a new stage guitarist and the band went on officially as a 4-piece in terms of writing/recording.
I think Tidal Wave has become my favorite TBS album, which is insane for me because I LOOOOOVE WYWTB and have a lot memories tied to that album. I just go back to TW more than anything else from TBS these days. It’s sad to see Eddie gone. He’s going to be missed during the creative process. I’m surprised he isn’t in the band just for that. Hope he will be okay though.
How does this even work when the founding member leaves the band? I'm sure it happens, but like, does he still collect percentages from touring, merch, streaming, etc? I mean, it's HIS band.
I’d highly doubt Eddie had any additional publishing/royalty rights for being a founder. It’s probably more of a symbol than anything. I thought in that AP oral history from forever ago they had mentioned that everything has always been split pretty evenly and part of the problem with Fred was that he wanted more publishing rights, which didn’t go over well. Maybe he gets something from the back catalog, but at this point in their career I can’t imagine that’s much?
Didn’t Mark dislike that guy too? I know there were creative differences, and fazzi and rubano were allegedly let go during a phone call that seemed to come out of left field? (By fazzi’s account when it originally happened.) I can’t imagine they would get along at all.
He’ll probably get money from streaming or sales of records he was part of? I don’t really know how that works, but anything going forward that he wasn’t a part of, probably not. He started a couple of bands back in the day, the other most recognizable to me is The Movielife. It would be sad if he was out of music entirely, considering the influence he had on the music that came out of Long Island.
well since aaron is back im wrong but for the bit where he wasnt in the band there were zero original members in the band. it actually happens more often than you think where a band has zero original members in it. i doubt eddie has full ownership of anything related to tbs
Not sure that Jason even knows. He doesn't like TBS so I imagine he doesn't follow them closely. At least probably not their Facebook Page and not this thread.
I can't speak for how Fazzi was let go, but I listened to this podcast where Rubano talked about being let go and, as much as I love this band, it was pretty shitty what happened to him. If I recall correctly, the band did some shows in Australia in January 2010, after that Rubano went on a vacay for a few days and came back and started writing and sending new music ideas out to the band but they never responded to his e-mails over the course of a couple weeks. Then they had a conference call and the band let him go during that call, then the next day they posted the first set photos hinting that John and Shaun were back in the band.
yeah but John wasn't in the band for 3 straight albums. Eddie is the only one who was there for the entire span of TBS.
They still have not posted anything about Eddie on their Twitter page (and still have him included in the bio despite tweeting since Friday). The late night Friday post was weird. Really trying to go under the radar with this. Would anyone be surprised if their next album is their last? All of them are married now with young kids, from what I've heard and seen, I think they even bring their families on tour with them. With all the shake-ups, and the declining popularity, I could see them being done after this next album.
at the same time though, this is how they support their growing families. I dont expect them to be done after the next album but this band breaking up at any time would never shock me. We don’t have any details about the eddie situation, for all we know they already have a plan in place to continue full steam. It does still seem strange how the whole thing was done, with the weird late announcement after nearly 2 years of them not even trying to address his extended absense. Maybe the social media age makes us feel more entitled than we are to information, eddies situation is most likely none of our business, but it always feels nice when you have closure on a change made in a band you love.
