This band has a lot of "what ifs" throughout their history, but outside of lineup related ones the biggest is definitely "what if they had a different producer for Louder Now and the self-titled?" We'd probably have the extended bridge version of "What's It Feel Like To Be A Ghost?" (which is so much better) and possibly a different version of 20/20. Plus half of the self-titled could have been replaced with the much better b-sides. The latter "what if" upgrades the self-titled from the worst TBS album to the top three.
I'm late to the 5000th album ranking on this threat but here you go folks: WYWTB TAYF LN NA S/T HI TW
I'm interested in hearing your alternative haha I know most people would probably default to "Little Devotional" but I love that song too much.
The Union is my favorite TBS song of all-time. Has been for the last 14 years. I honestly can't pick a least favorite song on the first two albums. I love every single song on both of them. Gun to my head, I guess i'd maybe say Cute without the E just because it's the most overplayed and then maybe Photograph??? I agree with you on Up Against and Like You Do though. Homecoming is a top 5 song off TIdal Wave for me, so don't agree there either.
I feel the same way about WYWTB, truthfully not a "bad" song on it. I love "Number 5..." though. "In The Middle of It All" is definitely by-the-numbers but it's catchy as all hell imo, plus I was listening to it a lot while marathon training, and it's a good cardio song to keep pace to. I feel like "Falling..." is kinda the unsung hero of S/T. Catchy guitar riff, the chorus is fun to sing along to, classic TBS bridge, etc. I can see where it might bore some people though.
Again with Homecoming, I hate saying it's the worst song on the album because it's really not a "bad" song. It's just a little too repetitive for me. I kinda get bored with it after a little while.
I've definitely had discussions with other members of the forum about Falling, I'm for sure one of the few people who it bores. I'm glad most people like it though, but it just does nothing for me. Definitely a valid criticism.
To Homecoming's credit though, it's a nice little pick-me-up after how much of a downer "We Don't Go In There" is hah
the only two records by this band i care about are Happiness Is... and Tidal Wave. i think those are both great pop-rock records with a lot of character. S/T had some goodies too but it's never been something i've wanted to revisit as a continuous piece of music. TAYF is a bad record. i'm super here for whatever they do next.
Oh yea, for sure. I'd say one of the biggest strengths of Tidal Wave is the way it all flows together. Album sequencing is such an underrated thing and they absolutely nailed it. I can't say how many times I've gone in to just play one song and then ended up listening to the rest of it the whole way through just because of how seamlessly it all flows together.
Just finished listening to John's song about "The Pelican Brief" and story behind it...man, he's a weird dude haha
Best song / worst song? Great Romances / Bike Scene Phasers / Photograph my Blue Heaven / error Swing / Catholic Knees Sad Savior / Money We were younger then / they don't have any friends Fences / Holy Water
Bike Scene and Holy Water as worst on their records has me very shook Romances/Head Club Devotional/Union Blue Heaven/Let You Live (FIGHT ME CHORUS.FM) Swing/Jenny All Now/Money Gardens/Like You Do Call Come Running/Felt It Too
Swing is a top 10 TBS song for me and i think thats probably a hot take considering the new again opinions. I love that song.
holy water has some very good parts but i think adam's voice struggles in that one for some reason. i think over the last two he really got it to a comfortable and nice sounding place but that song just reaches a bit much for me. i still like it though
Best/worst Ghost man/bike scene 180/union maybe? They’re all flawless Miami/divine intervention EMG/catholic knees Doesn’t feel a thing like falling/money Better homes/like you do All excess/we don’t go in there
