maybe i'm alone on this but the fazzi era was my least favorite. it just never felt like TBS to me. with Rubano handling backing vocals and fazzi trying to sing freds parts, and thats when they brought in the stage guitarist, idk it never felt like them to me and i was happy to see him go especially when it was announced that it was in favor of the reunion.
I agree with Sean on Fazzi's era. And this is coming from a big defender of New Again from back then. The truth is that I feel like without John and Shaun, this band wouldn't have survived any longer. Adam and John are Taking Back Sunday's beating heart. They need each other and work better when song writing together because everything else was other dudes trying to emulate that. Fred is very talented, and so is Fazzi, but it just wasn't the same. The growth that the band went through the Self-Titled to Tida Wave is visible, and that's when they literally stopped trying to sound like Taking Back Sunday and just allowed themselves to be Taking Back Sunday, a band of dudes that are past their 30s. I love Straylight Run, I love John Nolan's solo stuff and Adam's solo stuff showed promise, but they just work better as an unit than apart.
Straylight Run records from back then are as much important to me as Taking Back Sunday's records from that time. Adam and John matured and so did I. I'm happy to have them making music that speak to old me as much as it once spoke to young me. I don't even think it's fair to compare where the bands were then with how they are now, they are simply different people, just like I'm not the same dude screaming Timberwolves At New Jersey at the top of my lungs or sobbing to Existentialism. Today I can relate way more to stuff like We were younger yhen, I felt it too, We don't go in there, etc..
Agreed. It's the only newer recording where I didn't mind, and actually enjoyed, the shift in Adam's voice on older songs.
Other than me, I think you’re the first person to praise I’ll Let You Live on here! One of my personal favorite TBS songs.
oh wow talk about like 2 degrees of separation to Banks. I know of that guy through the dude who mixes our records. also apparently Seals plays his guitar like Hendrix, a left handed strat upside down haha
Isn't there a TBS track on Spotify that is a cover? Jen or something? How can I hear that if I don't have a Spotify account?
Are you talking about “She” by Green Day? It’s really good but it doesn’t appear to exist anywhere but Spotify.
