I very rarely understand people's complaints about production. I don't hear anything wrong with s/t or NA
I think Fazzi may have been the most musically talented the band has ever had, and when listening to Live From Orensanz, had a really, really good voice. Unfortunately for him, he was the worst fit. I wish New Again would have featured more Fazzi. It was the first album in TBS' catelog that had too much Adam.
I think he was a great fit, but when John and Shawn wanted to reunite the OG lineup, both Matt's were tossed aside. I love the sound they have now, but would have liked at least one more Fazzi album to see what it would sound like.
I remember reading that the execs at Warner did not like Fazzi's voice so they made the band write out a lot of his singing parts. Huge mistake in my opinion.
I believe only Rubano was tossed aside. I think Fazzi was already leaving if I'm remembering correctly.
I dunno, I thought I remember a joint release from both Matt's saying they were kicked out and then like weeks later came the John and Shawn announcement. However it went down, still awkward they had to promote Live from Orensanz for awhile after that since as soon as John joined, the whole band started talking about how bad NA songs were lol
Actually according to that AP oral history that TBS did, Fazzi was kicked out first. Then when Adam & Eddie called Rubano to tell him the news, Eddie just shouted out "yeah and you're fired too." Apparently Eddie hated Matt. John and Shaun weren't asked to come back until after both Matts got the boot. Honestly that whole AP story left a sour taste in my mouth for the band, especially Eddie. Sounded really bitter and a bit of an ego.
To be honest - and I LOVE John Nolan - the Fred/Rubano line-up was my favorite TBS line-up. EDIT: In an ideal world, that line-up would have stuck together and Straylight Run would still be making music.
Speaking of Eddie, he didn't play with them last night in Cleveland. Thought he might since it's close to his hometown but no.
I never saw that line-up live :( I first saw them in Philly on the New Again tour. They sounded great though, super tight. That show was w/ Anberlin and Envy on the Coast.
I always got a weird vibe from him. I know Mark and Fred were at odds a lot. Both of them are super nice dudes though.
I've seen TBS twice. I saw them with the original(round 2) group and with Rubano/Fred. I thought they were way better with Rubano/Fred live, personally. So much energy
But it makes them look terrible and now that the band seems to be coming around to NA as well as fans.... If he doesn't come back, will it be a crazy loss? He's missed a ton of touring since Tidal Wave was released right? I know he's an OG member, but he is one of three guitar players for songs that aren't too crazy complicated.
I saw them on that tour in Cleveland! Looking at setlist.fm, they played these NA songs: Carpathia New Again Sink Into Me Everything Must Go And they played Brooklyn too which is pretty awesome.
Nah, I don't think it's a huge loss personally. It just seems kinda weird that he doesn't really tour with them much anymore.
Me neither, that's why I had to youtube them lol. Fred was pretty good too and loved how he could do the raspy yell/screams that Fazzi couldn't do.
NA has always had fans and defenders. They're wrong, but they're entitled to be and they have always been very vocal. How has the band changed their stance at all? They only ever seem to play the one same song from that album if they touch it at all. The oral history basically had Eddie and Mark shit all over it and Adam was lukewarm on it. Adam liked his lyrics but didn't say much from my recollection. What has changed?
I've seen every era of TBS during every album cycle. Best they ever sounded live was with Fred & Rubano on the Louder Now tour.
As for Eddie shitting on NA and Fazzi, he's just bitter cuz hes not a good guitar player and Matt had to re-record all of his parts.
