I will say it's kind of bogus that the way this tour was marketed by the band was 'small club, no rules, longer sets' and really, they're not playing that much longer of a set - if at all. 20-22 songs is a normal set from them. Last time I saw them (last Spring), they played 22 songs. Because I LOVE the new album, I'd have no problem hearing it front to back, but I'd also like to hear them play deeper cuts instead of all their 'hits' in the second set. When this tour was first announced, the way they were talking, I thought it'd be like a 25-27 song set with a plethora of deep cuts. Either way, I'm real bummed I'm missing this show next week.
Agree 100%. You shouldn't do album shows when the album is less than a month old. Also it's dumb to sell shows as normal shows when they are actually album shows.
I go to shows myself too. I don't give a shit. None of my friends really listen to this type of music, and the ones who used to don't feel the need to go to shows. Every now and then when Brand New plays one of my friends goes. My brother will go a lot of times, but only for certain ones. I am going solo to TBS. I went solo to Sick Of It All and Comeback Kid earlier in the month.
Yeah, it's honestly not a big deal at all. It's not like you're talking to people during the show anyway. You're listening to loud-ass music. I guess it just has a social stigma to it. I saw Astronautalis last week by myself and I counted probably at least a dozen other people there that I could tell were by themselves (it was a small show - maybe 100 people total).
Yeah, other than grabbing a drink before or afterwards and some small talk between bands it's not too bad. I do like going with my brother to shows for bands we are both into because than you have some nice rocking out going. I do like that a lot. But, if my choice is flying solo or missing a cool show, I will go with the former. Was Astronautalis at the Grog Shop last week? I almost went to that, but had some work dinners going on and just wanted to go home.
Yep. He didn't go on until 11 pm, which I thought was crazy. Didn't even leave my house until 9 (I live about 40 min away). It would have been cool to have had a friend go with me to get drinks beforehand somewhere in Coventry, but oh well. I wasn't gonna let that stop me from missing the show.
I figured he would be going on later, but that is pretty darn late haha. That sucks you will miss the TBS show. I think it will be a good time. If you were going I would say let's grab a drink next door beforehand to kill some time. Perhaps maybe another show when our solo selves have nothing better to do.
As of now, I have a work meeting that begins at 7...it could go anywhere from an hour and a half to 3 hours...If I knew for sure it'd only be an hour or an hour and a half, I'd purchase a ticket (still can't believe it's not sold out) and just go straight from my meeting solo. But I never know with these meetings, they typically tend to go pretty long and with tickets being $40+ after fees combined with me already seeing the band 10+ times before, not worth taking the risk. If I find out before Tuesday it'll be a quicker meeting, I still may pull the trigger. Part of me wishes it'd sell out already so I stop thinking about it.
Yeah, that has to be super annoying. Having the show sell out would make the decision for you. I'm sure there will be other shows we are both going to haha.
Not sure how long it has been, but the Carrboro, NC show has sold out. I honestly want to sell my ticket so if anyone is in that area and wants in, feel free to message me.
Yeah, it's honestly the only reason I'm considering going, and I'm a casual at best TBS fan who is 3-4 hours away from the nearest date!
It's the only reason I bought a ticket to the Philly date.. oh yea I got it under face value on stub hub too ha
I wish I didn't have tickets for Cleveland on Tuesday. I am usually a more than one show of a tour type of person but I just don't have any desire to sit through Tidal Wave again. Even after listening to it a few times I'm just not a huge fan of it.
I have been very uncertain on this tour, but I am going to ultimately attend it tonight. The literal only reason for it is that I have the full day off of work, so why not? I have no other obligations. I'm going to enjoy it regardless because it's Taking Back Sunday, so hopefully I have a great time while I'm there.
For anyone that has gone to a show that wasn't the one I went to (the first night): what time as Taking Back Sunday been taking the stage? Doors are 7:00 PM here, YBI! goes on st 8:00 PM. So, 9:15? Or earlier? I work until 8:00 and just want to make sure I can make it okay.
Someone asked them on Twitter about tonight's show and they tweeted back that You Blew It was on at 8 and TBS was on at 9. I'd assume that's close to what most of the shows will be since there is only 1 opener.
Very cool that YBI! is playing that long. I know they won't have a crowd or anything but I'm excited to see them
Anyone going to the Thursday NYC show that would like to exchange tickets and go Friday instead? I got called into work for next Saturday morning at 5am and I just don't wanna be excruciatigy tired for work on Saturday.
