I really liked the first half of The Color Fred album, but the second half had a very strong fall off for me. Terrible Things was strong front to back, imo.
I know I've mentioned this before, but I saw The Color Fred open up for Straylight Run back in 2007 (along with Cassino). What a bad ass show that was.
I saw them open for Angels And Airwaves around then, too. TCF was better. I feel that album is sorely underrated
I'd say my revisited New Again would be: New Again Winter Passing Sink Into Me Lonely Lonely Summer, Man Didn't See That Coming Swing Long Time Coming Catholic Knees Carpathia Everything Must Go I'll have to try actually listening to it in that order though. For some reason, I really like the idea of putting that sweet slow jam second.
The Terrible Things album is so good, but it makes me sad because I can totally see Adam singing on those songs with Fed. Sounds like it could’ve been the next TBS release after Louder Now.
been revisiting the entire discography bc i’m always in a tbs mood i guess lol. anyway, i realized happiness is is my actual favorite, despite how much i love tidal wave. the self-titled is pretty good but it’s the kind of record i’d classify as overcooked or overproduced. some of the verse/chorus transitions on that record feel really frankensteined together (which is why the demos pop so much; they feel more holistically written and arranged than a lot of the songs on the real record) and the whole thing just feels like a product of too much second guessing. “call me in the morning” still utterly perfect though
Nailed it with that “too much second guessing bit”. I guess Warner Bros. wanted to capitalize on the OG reunion hype and wanted them to put an album out asap instead of giving them a little bit more time to learn how to play and write together again. Plus fucking Eric Valentine’s production sucks. And yeah, “Call Me in the Morning” is a total gem of a song.
It’s a good song, but I think “This Is Happening” would’ve been a better closer. My revised tracklist for HI looks like this: Flicker Fade How I Met Your Mother Stood a Chance All the Way Beat Up Car It Takes More They Don’t Have Any Friends Better Homes and Gardens Can You Feel That (Here I Am) We Were Younger Then This Is Happening
My revised tracklist for Tell All Your Friends is: Deathwolf Tidal Wave El Paso A Decade Under the Influence Beat Up Car Flicker Fade Best Places to Be a Mom Swing 180 By Summer The Blue Channel You Can't Look Back Everything Must Go
First or second cycle of tbs music? I think I'm getting to the point where I overall prefer the second trilogy of albums to the first, but damn wywtb and louder now have some memories attached
from what I've read I think that the label was hanging over their heads for the self-titled, I think they were in the studio a lot asking to change things or whatever, doing the whole "there should only be one lead singer" thing. I think that kind of explains that whole effect because you're definitely right.
I'm right there with you. There's some nostalgia with the first three, but I listen to the more recent ones almost exclusively.
Where You Want To Be is still my favorite and likely always will be. that being said, I think this is the best version of the band and absolutely their best three record run.
I got this link from a friend, and I'm glad they have new music in the works. I can't believe Tidal Wave is turning 2 in a few months. For me: WYWTB = TAYF > Tidal Wave = Happiness Is = New Again > Self Titled = Louder Now
"our drummer mark playing fills that just don't seem humanly possible" lol i think this to myself anytime i pay attention to mark's playing
top ten in this era (last three records) idk why It Doesn't Feel a Thing Like Falling We Were Younger Then Call Me In The Morning You Can't Look Back Death Wolf I'll Find a Way to Make it What You Want Better Homes and Gardens Sad Savior This is All Now Beat Up Car
it takes more death wolf best places to be a mom i'll find a way to make it what you want call me in the morning better homes and gardens i felt it too all excess they don't have any friends beat up car this was very hard!!!!!
this is chrono not ranked that'd be way too hard Sad Savior Doesn't Feel a Thing Like Falling Beat Up Car Better Homes and Gardens Death Wolf You Can't Look Back All Excess I Feel It Too Holy Water (their greatest song) I'll Find a Way to Make It What You Want
No Flicker Fade, Call Come Running or Tidal Wave on these lists? For shame. At least Beat Up Car is getting the loves.
