Idk it’s mostly bc it seems your knowledge of theory seems to elevate your love for certain songs/bands/albums, and to me, New Again is the most impressive this band has ever been on a technical level.
Tidal Wave is on a completely different level compared to their past works. I always find something enjoyable about each of their albums - but goddamn this one just flows like no other.
Well it was mostly Adams vocals that bothered me I think lol. I’m going to try to go back to it soon. As fast as like theory stuff is concerned I do appreciate things but it usually doesn’t dictate whether or not I like it. Give me 4 diatonic chords and a great melody and I’m happy lol. I also like odd time signatures and secondary harmonies most when you almost don’t even notice it. I was listening to a mwy song on catch for us the foxes and I just realized they used 5/4 on an outro for the first time haha, I’ve listened to that album like 100 times. Sort of cool I didn’t notice though, felt so natural.
Can’t look back is an incredible song, the lyrics are incredible and god damn if it isn’t one of the best bridges this band has written
Wait wait wait...You're gonna say that a band whose album closers include "Slowdance on the Inside" "Everything Must Go" "Call Me in the Morning" and "I'll Find a Way..." doesn't know how to do album closers? C'mon now haha I agree on the "Jacksonveeeele" part though. His pronunciation of that always irked me
That's another thing this band does better than most- bridges. With Eddie's departure, I wonder what will become of that aspect of their songwriting because I believe he wrote a lot of their bridges and outros.
top 5 TBS songs for me 1. 180 by Summer 2. Can't look Back 3. Better Homes and Gardens 4. Call Come Running 5. You Know how I Do
I'm pretty fresh off hearing a lot of the discog for the first time, buuut 1. Holy Water 2. Your Own Disaster 3. Ghost Man on Third 4. Everything Must Go 5. Sad Saviour
No surprises from me, just all heavy hitters my dude. 1. A Decade Under the Influence 2. Flicker Fade 3. Best Place To Be a Mom 4. Everything Must Go 5. You Can't Look Back a top 10 would include 180 and Tidal Wave for sure.
It changes all the time for me, but currently I’d say: 180 by summer What’s it feel like to be a ghost Cant look back Beat Up Car Homecoming Honorable Mentions: Bonus Mosh Pt 2. And Carpathia Never understood why they don’t play Carpathia live with this OG line up. I think could pull it off.
Homecoming should've been the closer on Tidal Wave. Thats really my only complaint about that album lol. Well, that and the long ass intro to Death Wolf. Luckily, those are easy fixes.
Yeah, idk I like Adam’s vocals on NA, they actually bug me most on the S/T onwards. I get that, I def didn’t get the impression that theory was all that dictated your enjoyment of music, just that it elevates it sometimes. I just would have pegged NA to be one of those albums that you’d appreciate on that level, idk.
