Precisely why I asked; the one song I had heard off Tidal Wave was the title track, and it was such a turnoff I haven't even returned to check out the rest of the album...buuut probably it's as simple as what TBS was offering wasn't what I personally was expecting (or wanting) after Happiness Is.
Tidal wave is the only song that sounds like the ramones in the album. Rest feels like a logical progression from happiness is
I wasn't that hyped after Tidal Wave. And I really like Happiness Is and was hoping they progressed from that album even more and I think they did resoundingly. I'm in love with the album. I like Tidal Wave ok enough in the context of the album but it's doesn't speak for the album at all. They picked a really weird first impression.
OK, so I gave this album a TON of spins over the weekend and in my car (where music really hits me the most - while driving) and I'm way on board with this album. At first, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoyed Happiness Is...and thought it was overhyped but now I'm thinking Tidal Wave may have surpassed that record (although it's still close). The makings of a great album, for me, is when every day you have a new favorite song on the record. Seems like every few hours I have a different song from Tidal Wave stuck in my head. There is not one bad song on the album in my opinion, which I can't say that about the last three records. Makes me SO bummed that I have a work commitment the night they play in Cleveland next week.
I may need to go back and listen again. I gave it one listen over the weekend and didn't find it to be that good. Felt like it kind of dragged a bit and turned it off.
this album's moodier songs are better than the ones on Happiness Is. Not sure which one I like more as a whole, but I always felt that "All The Way" was a weak point
Due to the hype of both this thread and many reviews, I was underwhelmed after one listen myself. As I mentioned earlier, I took a lot of time with it over the weekend and so glad I did. It's really, really good once it settles in. I loved Happiness Is...this may be better.
I agree with All the Way. Also can't stand Like You Do. Other than that, I love every other song on Happiness Is...The final two songs, We Were Younger Then and Nothing At All are incredible, in my opinion.
Biggest surprise for me this year. Band hasn't sounded this good or been this interesting since Where You Want to Be. Glad I gave this a listen.
I'm still trying to feel it out. I like it quite a bit but I'm still not in love with it. I want to though, it's where I want to be.
USPS tracking says my preorder package came today and was delivered, and yet I don't see it in my mail....I may need to start making some calls >=(
one of the things I'm really loving about this is how strong the climaxes are. tbs always killed it with the bridge build up/outros during the TAYF/WYWTB/LN era along with the dual vocals, and this is the first record since then where I feel like they've recaptured that essence of the band consistentally. they've come close on a few tracks, like this is all now or call me in the morning, but I think they really did it right this time around
Haven't enjoyed an album front to back like this since Gaslight's 59 Sound...no skippable songs. Incredible record.
