song is kinda meh on first listen...I got this same impression from the live version too. feels like a throwaway to me. and "Flicker, Fade" kinda knocked me on my ass when I first heard it
I really like how short the song is, I can't wait to listen to this while driving in the morning. Edit: here are (almost all) the lyrics What’s gonna happen when the old man goes When ? ? ? Take control When the guns are drawn outside your doors Will you call for peace or will you join the war What you gonna do when the law breaks in Will you stand your ground or confess your sins Oh no no no you don't know Oh No no No you don't know Where you gonna hide all he lies you talk About back any of the soul you sold When your will is weak and the weight is strong Where will you go when you cant go on What’s gonna happen on your dying day Terrified to find the pearly gates No no no you don’t know No No No you don't know You can beg you can plead you can try you can pray Nothing’s gonna save you from the tidal wave You can run, you can hide, you can leave you can stay Nothings gonna save you from the tidal wave You can beg you can plead you can try you can pray Nothings gonna save you from the tidal wave You can run, you can hide, you can leave, you can stay Nothing’s gonna save you from the tidal wave What’s gonna happen when the old man goes What’s gonna happen when the old man goes Guns are drawn outside your doors What’s gonna happen when the old man goes Watcha gonna do when the law breaks in? Whatcha gonna do when the law breaks in? Oh no, no, no you don't know Oh no no no you don’t know You can beg you can plead you can try you can pray Nothing’s gonna save you from the tidal wave You can run, you can hide, you can leave you can stay Nothings gonna save you from the tidal wave You can beg you can plead you can try you can pray Nothings gonna save you from the tidal wave You can run, you can hide, you can leave, you can stay Nothing’s gonna save you from the tidal wave
So they ripped off The Ramones?... That said, the change in sound has me really interested to hear the rest of this album. Self-titled and Happiness were both decent, but neither gave me much reason to come back after the first few listens.
Does nothing for me. Seems very uninspired. As a fan of Taking Back Sunday and their shift in sound, and as a fan of fast, simple punk rock music. This still leaves me feeling very....meh.. Will still listen to the new album though and hope for some diversity in the tracks. I loved Happiness Is but was very unhappy when I first heard Stood A Chance, which ended up not being indicative of the overall sound of HI. So, I'm optimistic I will like some songs from this album but "Tidal Wave" isn't for me.
Love the album art and new track is good but agree it has a heavy Menzingers influence which isn't bad and even reminded me of the So So Glo's a bit which just happened to have opened for them on tour recently. edit: Also, anyone in this thread should check out The So So Glo's new album Kamikaze it's just an amazing punk-rock sing-along summer jammer reminiscent of the Ramones.
Very different sound for them. Heard it live at Taste of Chaos first and I really like it. Can't wait to hear the entire album.
Def not better than IAAN lol Decent song though. And if I'm not mistaken, that is John on the leads, right?! Please let there be more John led songs
I liked "Stood a Chance" way more than this, but "Tital Wave" is still OK. Also, a lot of people on this forum are going to love Adam's accent when he's talking at the beginning of the video.
Now that I think about it, it does kind of sound like "Who's Your Partner," or the albums Chamberlain Waits or A Lesson in the Abuse of IT in general. Now I'm even more excited to see where they go on this album.
