Taking Back Sunday have announced Fred Mascherino will be joining them for the upcoming tour. The full press release can be found below.

After having him join them in their performance last night at Great South Bay Music Festival, beloved rock band Taking Back Sunday announced that they are welcoming back guitarist Fred Mascherino for their upcoming tour with Coheed and Cambria. Mascherino will be filling in for John Nolan, who has shared his intentions to take a short break from touring to spend time with his family.

Mascherino was a full-time member of Taking Back Sunday from 2004-2007, and wrote and recorded with the band on their seminal albums Where You Want to Be and Louder Now. Late last year he made a guest appearance at their 2024 holiday show, marking the group’s first time on stage together in over 15 years. Fred has continued to work on several musical projects including starting the label Heading East Records.

Fans can catch Taking Back Sunday on the road this summer with Coheed and Cambria. The co-headline tour kicks off on August 16th in St. Louis, with stops to follow in Chicago, Philadelphia, Nashville, Dallas, Los Angeles, and more, including a stop at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatrein Denver. Tickets for all shows are available now at www.takingbacksunday.com.

I've gone from not caring if I catch them when I see Coheed to being very excited. Awesome.

A big hell yeah fuck yeah from me. Always think his era was the best.

I just saw them on the 2024 so was not planning on this one. Then the Fred announcement made me rethink that. Of course, my stop on the tour is already sold out...

Seriously? Fred has done absolutely nothing noteworthy or relevant since he left TBS

Sometimes guys just work great in one specific context/band but don't have the same magic solo.

There are tons of people who are clearly brilliantly talented but have zero success outside of one specific group due to the chemistry/timing or whatever.

For me having Fred would give TBS a real boost and would make me excited to hear new music from them regardless of what he's done since.

That Terrible Things debut was really good. At least I liked it a lot.

I hear ya on that. I just don’t see it happening again 20 years later.

I don’t think they’d be looking to have him in the band. I think if they put out anything new with him, it would be a song or three as Taking Back Sunday featuring Fred Mascherino. With the state of that band’s internal workings, I have a feeling they’ll stay an official three piece instead of having to go through the business side of adding a new member.

there’s also a chance that after this tour, they don’t do another full tour like this and only have him on certain dates when paths cross in the future. Talking to somebody over the phone and doing a few rehearsals and shows is much different experience than touring with somebody for an extended period of time. It might not be something they’re interested in doing again. Like when you go on vacation with a friend for the first time and realize traveling with them is not actually possible

    Might be Spider-Man...

I will die on the hill that TBS 2.0 with Fred and Matt is the best version of that band. If this is the closest thing, I'll check it out. Seeing him and Adam, coexist is heartwarming on a level I didn't know.

Is this that controversial? Their two best albums/highest point of relevancy happened during the Fred era (as much as I enjoy the reunion albums).
