He composed a lot of the demos for 152 on GarageBand, namely "Lightbringer" and "The Stranger." I know he composed "Keep Going", too.
Mark is as heavily involved in the whole process as any drummer. Reminds me of Derek from Alkaline in the same way. So it'd be weird if neither drummer was involved on the follow ups to two of my fave albums. Although I'm def intrigued on what Atom will bring to the next one Def hope Mark is around for the next TBS album. Just watched all the clips of stuff he's working on and am interested either way
Might have just had the perfect amount of edibles but last night in Fresno may have been the best I’ve ever seen them live. The new songs sound huge and they had fun extended outros on a lot of the older stuff. Now the Used on the other hand woof, maybe it was just a bad night but Bert sounded laughably bad.
IMO “Lightbringer” was the highlight of the Philly show back in August. I’m so bummed I never saw The Used live in their prime when Bert could still scream and hit high notes.
When I saw them this summer, they were doing an intro to the one that was incredibly atmospheric and really added something to the song that I think it was missing
Oh, 100%! I prefer the live version of the song way more than the record. Makes me disappointed that they didn't put the extended intro and outro on the album.
Nah it goes on too long for it to be on the album version. It’s a fun treat live, has kind of a jammy feeling to it
Yeah, I get that. But they could also release an "extended jam" version on a deluxe version of 152... *Wishful thinking*
Ugh yeah good point on Derek. I hadn't even thought about the next album yet and yeah he seemed really heavily involved in the whole song writing process, or at the very least adding to ideas after matt and dan brought songs to the studio, gonna be a hit to their vibe to not have him there. But yeah Atom is super experienced obviously so I'm sure he'll do just fine contributing haha
Fun fact about Lightbringer, at the VIP chat in Denver they said they wrote Lightbringer while in Vegas for When We Were Young in 2022. In the YouTube behind the scenes for the song, they said the demo version was very different.
It wouldn't surprise me if they wrote S'old or New Music Friday while they were there too, considering those songs are about
This whole conversation just reminds me that I need to go ahead and listen to 152 again. Thanks everyone!
Was watching a live video of one of the few times they’ve done New Music Friday live (from the record release shows, which I’m still kicking myself for not going to) and it rips live too, I need them to recognize this and play it. I’m tired of this setlist already. I really hope for the holiday shows this year they switch a lot up. I need New Music Friday live, it’s such a terrific song.
