Glad to hear it was a good show. I’m seeing them on Friday in Philly and every other post in r/takingbacksunday in Reddit is people saying how bad the shows have been so I was getting kinda discouraged, but hot damn, if they play The Stranger on Friday I’m gonna be so pumped.
I’ve seen some of the Reddit posts and don’t agree with them. They sounded good to me when I saw them this past week, looked like they were all having fun, and Adam was Adam, which I suppose can be strange and off-putting to people who are going into this without any idea of what he’s like during a live show? There seems to be a lot of mistaking the combination of the stutter he’s spoken about having before, his dramatics, and the goofy dancing as him not being sober? A lot of the Reddit comments are dressing up their shit-talking as “concern” in my opinion and aren’t really in good faith. what I’ve been impressed with is actually how well the newer songs seem to be going over. S’old and the One are really fun live. They’ve been doing an intro for the One, and during sold, Adam didn’t even have to sing the “a little more your love” part the second time because the crowd carried it. For a band that really feeds off a crowd’s energy, that felt really big.
WHAAAT HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THAT AHHHHH Edit: Did they do it last night? I looked at the previous setlists and do not see it on there. EDIT EDIT: They did do The Stranger last night. So envious!!!
Yea, they were fine in Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago. Some vocal issues here and there for Adam and John, but nothing horrendous. They have a really great set for this tour, too. Adam is a very awkward frontman. Definitely a band that should stay less talk, more rock at this point. And yea, I really dug hearing the new jams. Would have taken one more over Timberwolves, but that’s just a small nitpick of the set.
I find him funny and entertaining, and I will say that compared to other TBS sets I’ve seen, I think he talked a lot less than usual. but big agree on more new songs. I’m over hearing a lot of the old things except your own disaster that was a good choice on their part (and they seemed to really enjoy playing it whereas some of the TAYF songs do have somewhat of a going through the motions vibe).
I dunno I think we got 4 songs out of 20 from the new album, that was enough for me. Plus 2 songs from tidal wave. If anything I’d give up a song or two from that group for another one from Happiness Is.
I somehow forgot to thank them for making the album, but I'm pretty sure the custom folder I made for them proved that I liked it lol.
Immensely fulfilling night. Citizen was great. TBS was great. Crowd was awesome. And this venue had the best sound of any I've been too. Cannot wait to hear Trio play there next month.
Also when they were like 12 or 13 songs in, I was like damn Adam has only talked twice, and very briefly. But he got SUPER chatty at the end haha. The crowd was always engaged though. It cracked Nolan up when Adam sang happy birthday to two different people in a row.
He helped them out when they were in a tight spot! A pickle! His name is Mitch Register if I remember correctly? and I think he does a good job considering how insane of a drummer Mark is, and the fact that they just swapped out a couple of songs this late in the tour.It can’t be easy to have such little time to learn 20 songs.
Went last night. Overall good show. I’ve gotta say, as someone who has prob only heard every other late career album, I thought 152 was just decent when I listened to it in October, but revisiting it this week for the show I dig it a lot. The new songs sounded super good last night, and as much as I was there for the first two records I thought the setlist was pretty balanced. (I’d have cut one of the last two new ones pre encore for great romances or bike scene or something, but what can ya do.) Adam’s vocals were pretty good, feel bad that the tiktok vids have hurt their rep a little bit. John was on the other side of the stage and the mgm mix, at least as close to the stage as we were, is actually kind of stereo I think so I couldn’t hear him great. Crowd kinda sucked. Kinda comes with the territory of a borderline nostalgia tour, but the amount of talking during the two acoustic songs was absurd, and in general it was just a little dead until very late in the set. Glad I went, prob don’t needa see them again without it being at a fest or some kind of both TAYF/WYWTB in full shows.
