I can't keep track specifically who I'm directing that at, I just know a bunch of people said he looks like he doesn't wanna be doing this and I hate that shit lol
Oh phew, it's not me lol. Thanks. John always has a kinda glum look on his face lol. It's nothing new, it's just what he looks like. I know the lad is having fun internally.
I think it’s a little disingenuous to take “too many punk bands” and turn that into “all punk/rock-adjacent bands.” And when you consider the bands TBS actively tours with and consider their peers in the genre or bands they mention by name, I don’t think bands like bring me the horizon are really on John’s radar.
Yeah, that is true. I was wondering just how wide the scope was regarding what he said, because it was kind of a generic statement, he wasn't outright naming any names. Something interesting to note though is the big shift that Modern Chemistry had in their sound (a band that has toured with them before). They started off as a post-hardcore/emo band and then turned into this alternative pop act, which is cool. Might also have to do with some of their band members leaving (I do believe?) but still interesting nonetheless. I didn't want to turn it into "all punk/rock-adjacent bands" but my brain went there, whoops.
So I finally just watched the livestream and honestly it was par for the course. Nothing egregiously bad. That shit would GO HARD in an indoor 1-2K cap venue and am amped for the June show in Cleveland.
I feel like it’s been soooooo long since they did a proper headlining full tour. Was the last one they really did back in 2019?
Forgot that WYWTB turns 20 this year, and now I just want their tour this summer to be WYWTB and 152 played in their entirety
They're gonna play again at coachella today. I'll probably watch just to see if they change the set list at all.
They swapped "Liar" for "What's It Feel Like To Be a Ghost?" Which included this lyrical change I had not heard before BEFORE YOU BUCKLE AT YOUR KNOBBY LITTLE KNEES YOUR MAMA GAVE YA Not sure if he does that a lot or just wanted to throw that in there this time. Also ended the show climbing up the side of the stage which then lead to him having to awkwardly climb down.
He’s been doing that specific change for a long time now! I wish I could remember the first time I saw it but over 10 years at this point. he knocked the clock off the support and spent a long time trying to fix it.
Was it better overall than last week? I rewatched last week’s show and it grew on me. I’m just glad they’re still out there doing the thing.
I’m sure people will nitpick about it, but maybe the whole “scaling the truss to end the set singing upside down” will be the thing people take away from this (a guy can dream, anyway).
Anyone who saw them 20 years at Warped would have seen him climb and hang upside down from those stages everyday. Fun as hell for me to see him doing it 2 decades later. TBS live is an experience, not a musical "work of art", and that's okay.
He's been doing it since at least John and Shaun came back. Him climbing the scaffolding put a big ol' grin on my face. Surprised that he can still do it, too. Must have been from the adrenaline.
WYWTB is one of my fav albums of all time, but the only way I'd be excited to see them play it again would be with Fred. sadly I think there's probably no chance of that ever happening.
I still don't know why they haven't brought makedamnsure (and other songs) down in key. Sharing the performance above to show it can always be worse.
