I'm so impressed that John can play guitar with his strap the way it is. That would drive me crazy and make it feel like it was seconds from falling off.
A few posts back I think someone said he was getting aggravated with wearing his strap the traditional way especially when switching guitars during a set. I was wondering if maybe it was an injury as well, but its not like either of his live guitars are THAT heavy. Both weigh about 7 to 8.5lbs.
I genuinely don’t know, a year from now (as recency bias dims), if my favorite TBS album will be WYWTB or 152. I’m increasingly glad they named this one “152,” because it feels like they reached the place they’ve been circling to varying degrees since the end of the Fred era. Like, this is exactly what the band that made TAYF should make now that they’re old (and, now that I’m hitting midlife myself, lol). It sounds like that same band at roughly twice that age, but with a matured version of that same fire and heart.
I wish I understood why this album is so special to everyone haha. It's a good listen, but not getting anywhere near as many replays as the new blink album for me. I'll still take most TBS albums over this one I think self titled and tidal wave are the only albums I would rank below it
This’ll probably end up as my 4th or so favorite TBS record, which is to say I really like it a lot, but on first listen Happiness Is blew my mind a bit more. This 3 album run they’re on was just such a strong maturation that HI’s position in their discog means it’s the one that made the greatest leap over its predecessor and thus stands out more. Also really feels like 152 needs to be a little longer. As I’ve mentioned in another post I remain surprised that this is the record that brought so many people back in. Happy to see it, but still dont quite get it. Would be cool if they gave this album some full run throughs at shows like tidal wave but that’s probably quite unlikely.
damn that’s disappointing. It’s such a good album, and with all the positive reviews and the new labels push I was really hoping they’d make a good debut on the charts. Anyone remember how Tidal Wave charted first week?
I have had this album on repeat. Its been my study, walking, working, and exercising album for the week.
Need to them to play “New Music Friday” at one of these release parties. That may be my favorite track on the album so far.
it looks like these release shows are getting the album played in full, based on some instagram story posts last week.
Everytime I listen I catch some new details in the mix. Some really cool stuff they’re doing here. Really love this album a ton!
Just watched the I Heart Radio performance and I’m astonished at Adam’s performance. He gets a lot of shit but he crushed it here. John, however, was a big surprise and not in a positive way. I don’t know if he just can’t pull off some of the grittier material anymore but he straight up sounds like he’s struggling, especially on Fred era’s stuff. Like not even trying to sing full lines or elongate notes here and there. I wasn’t expecting that and it bummed me out at times. I even got first reunion Tom Delonge vibes with weirdly sounding vocals on a couple older songs.
John has never been great with really high singing, and the Fred era stuff definitely pushes that limit more. John thrives more in low to mid range, which you can really hear on his last solo album. When he does his yell/singing it works best just a tad lower than where Fred does. Anyway, yea, it’s a bummer these two guys can’t ever seem to be on at the same time haha. Nice seeing Adam sound so good though, and hopefully that translates moving forward.
John wants to be there and is clearly having a good time, his guitar playing is pretty nice and he's not bombed out of his mind, so let's not put John in a sentence with 1st reunion Tom lol
