There was a show they did for AXS TV in 2013 for the TAYF 10 tour, and when they did Decade, John’s last two “I’ve got a bad…”’s were…hilarious?
Yeah, man, not to keep harping on John because we all love John but…it seems he has been phoning it in for a decade. Kinda sad because the last three albums have been great but it almost seems like he made a deal with the devil and he’s just up there going through the motions live on stage.
Yeah I saw them in Philly on that brief tour they did right after they reunited and he had so much energy on stage that night. Not sure what happened along the way or when. I think it more or less has to do with not feeling a strong connection to the songs he had no part in creating. Not to say he feels one way or the other about those songs, but it’s understandable that you’d feel more inclined to put more of yourself into something you actually created, artistically speaking.
I don’t disagree with this but he even sounds like shit/looks disconnected with the TAYF/post reunion material. It’s really disappointing.
Man when I saw them a few years ago I honestly thought that John was the most compelling one on stage
people seem to point the blame at adam cause hes in the very forefront of things. this band has always fed off crowds singing louder than the band can play and the energy in the room. john wasnt the best either. its about singing songs as loud as you can with your friends sometimes. and tbs has always excelled at that.
Perhaps. Personally I got into the band through Louder Now and it helps that Fred seemed to nail it vocally, every single time. They've since been held to that standard I guess?
My take on John is he sounds fine when he goes all out, but I get the vibe that he doesn't like going all out/doesn't think his voice can handle it, so it kind of half-does it, and in doing so can't stay in tune/hit the right notes all the time.
I never got a chance to see the band live with Fred, but I did see them twice during the (album that must not be named) touring cycle, and Fazzi also nailed it pretty much every time and also jumped around the stage like a madman (and with a broken foot for a lot of that time). Also the band in general were so locked in with each other. They sounded incredible even on nights where Adam’s voice was shot.
I get that feeling as well sometimes. We all know he’s a very good singer, but not always the most confident singer.
This record does a great job at letting Adam off the leash vocally, while still keeping it in pocket and tuneful, which is something I don't think they always did with the last two records.
Dude, they sound fantastic on this livestream, wow. Link for anyone who wants it: Has John or the band said anything about what is going on with his shoulder that he is still wearing his guitar like that?
Over the summer he said having it the “normal” way was aggravating I guess an older injury from years of playing.
When John goes for it, he really gets it, in my opinion. Like when they played WYWTB in full in 2019, there were nights where I wish we had a live version of some of those songs because (not to reignite a very old debate, but) his scream is so much fuller than Fred’s was.
