I’m so excited for this album. Haven’t been this excited and hopeful for new TBS since the first reunion.
If the clip is the vinyl one from their story, it sounds very promising. Can't wait to hear the record this week end.
IMO he has always been the unsung hero of TBS’ sound live and on record. People always talk about dueling vocals or Fred’s guitar playing vs. John’s or Fazzi’s, but Mark O’Connell has consistently leveled up from album to album, and goes off live.
Haven’t posted on any threads in like 5 years (busy with getting married, having kids, pandemic, changing jobs, etc.), but I’m actually excited to talk about this album. Wasn’t crazy about “The One” when I first heard it, but it has a lot grown on me, and John’s “now I’m close enough to reach you” gets me every time. Loved “S’Old” immediately, even though the live videos I saw had me a little skeptical. It rips. I like “Amphetamine Smiles” but it’s such an odd choice to open a TBS album given how they’ve always managed to open their albums with bangers, but it’s still a good song and does flow nicely into S’Old and The One, so that’s cool. I’m trying to avoid listening to any other clips until Friday, but I’m hyped about some of the early feedback its getting. One thing that I thought “Tidal Wave” did well is that each track flowed from one to the next really cohesively. I’m hoping this album does the same.
I remember seeing him go OFF during head club live on that 20 tour they did, and it really made me appreciate it a lot more
S’old is Alt 104.5’s new music discovery of the week song. Pretty crazy to hear them getting radio play. Their label seems really invested in pushing the new record, which feels like something they’ve been missing for the past couple of records. https://alt1045philly.iheart.com/fe...scovery-of-the-week-taking-back-sunday-s-old/
Didn’t they sign bayside and a bunch of other “older” bands around the same time? I feel like they focused on one or two albums to promote and everybody else got shoved aside and forgotten about. the fantasy records line up is very interesting, to say the least, and I feel like there’s been a push in promotion. I get promoted posts for the album preorders on Instagram and I saw they had a billboard that was visible from the crowd at when we were young this weekend.
if you’re not doing anything at 7pm est on Wednesday they’re gonna play it through here apparently: 152 Premiere Party - Taking Back Sunday
They haven’t said anything. I wonder if that’s a temporary thing that will lift when the time is right. anybody know if the new song dropped in other parts of the world yet?
This may be off-topic and would be more relevant in the Gaslight thread, but in the past if TBS and Gaslight were putting out albums around the same time, I’d be equally excited for both. This time around though, I feel more excited about TBS than Gaslight. I’ve been feeling underwhelmed by the songs they've put out from History Books so far. I’ll need to revisit them again.
