First Impressions: Taking Back Sunday’s 152 is the best argument for mixing up who you work with and trying an outside-of-the-box producer I’ve seen in a long time. The result is the band’s best album in twenty years. Seriously, I’m obsessed. It’s just a front-to-back great rock album. Zero misses. They sound rejuvenated and inspired, and the album sounds incredible. Fresh. Modern. Punchy. From the standout “Keep Going” to the ballad “I Am The Only One Who Knows You,” I’m genuinely blown away. I had it on this morning while I was sitting here writing and doing some housekeeping, and I noticed Hannah dancing on the couch a few times, and when “Juice 2 Me” came on, she looked over and said, “Who is this? It’s really good.” Yep, yep, it is. It’s really good.
If I wasn't big on the first two songs do you still think there are better tracks on the album than those? I do really like Amphetamine Smiles. Any heavier, energetic songs, or is it more of a chill vibe like those three?
I can’t say I’ve been interested in TBS in a long time. I don’t think I’ve listened to a whole album since New Again. But I always check out the singles to see what they are up to. And these songs have definitely caught my attention. Good for them.
Jason being blown away by and obsessed with a TBS album feels like world peace lol If it's consistent with the first three it'll be an all timer for me for sure
The ones I mentioned as standouts I think are better. Haha. But I don’t think I’d call anything on the album “heavy.”
I would say check out Happiness Is. Flicker Fade is probably on the bottom half of the album for me, so if that was all you checked out from there you may have missed some songs you’d like
Committed to the Brooklyn Vegan white w/ blue splatter variant after reading Jason's positive thoughts. I'm trusting him on this one. Did not find myself excited for this, but here we are. Loved the first three singles. Let's go.
Yeah I had a hard time with the vocal mixing on Tidal Wave that made him sound weird but he's killing it on all the singles so far. They're also showing a good range of sounds. Hyped to hear the rest.
Never understood the love for All The Way. I don't dislike it or anything, and it has a great bridge, but the rest of it doesn't do much for me
Yo these dudes have a band called Wakelee and they're actually good. Id recommend checking out Tug of War by them For fans of early TBS, American Football, Old Grey and Sorority Noise
All The Way was one of the biggest reasons i thought happiness is was such a mediocre album when i first heard it. for years i felt really down about the album. i still skip a few of the tracks, with that being the first of them. i also personally feel that flicker, fade is easily a top 5 post-og reunion track… opinions are wild
