Legend has it that "Spin" is about Fall Out Boy and "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race" is about TBS
Every time I hear This is Happening I get more upset that it wasn't on the original tracklist of Happiness Is. Sincerely, what the fuck, it would have been a killer opener or closer. "Like You Do" makes the cut but these two awesome b-sides don't? anyway Happiness Is is a great album, especially the deluxe.
Never understood the Up Against slander, the verses and especially how it ends with those harmonics and the back and forths between Adam and Fred... top tier TBS for me
I know I have a bad take that I'm not very proud of: I have always hated the chorus of Blue Heaven. Love the verse, it's perfect. But it completely loses me in the chorus.
That is wrong because what it feels like to be a ghost liar makedamnsure Twenty twenty surgery Spin Miami Error operator are also on that album. And Brooklyn exists
I'm trying to remember because it's a long time ago and I'm old and a single parent and I work crazy hours rn. Also, it may be completely false. But Adam thought FOB was copying or mocking them with one of their lyrics way back when. And I've seen places where the backing part at the end of Spin is "spin, sugar, spin" as a reference to "sugar we're going down".
I wish Spin was a single so I could see that song live as often as I’m forced to see Error Operator and Liar live. those two songs just do nothing for me at this point- especially the live rendition of Error nowadays. Spin has always been one of my favs on the album.
This Is Happening should’ve been the closer. My updated Happiness Is… playlist on Spotify goes: Flicker Fade How I Met Your Mother Stood a Chance All the Way Beat Up Car It Takes More They Don’t Have any Friends Better Homes & Gardens Can You Feel That We Were Younger Then This Is Happening I like Preface and Nothing At All but the b-sides are all better and Like You Do is just not their best work at all
I could see Fred advocating for Error: Operator because its way less of a pain in the ass to play/sing than The Union.
i am a big fan of nothing at all, thats a song i would show all the dumb brand new fans who act reductive about this band and be like "they could literally do the indie rock thing if they wanted to and just decided they have other fish to fry" for context i also think their best album is tidal wave
