that's cool! they were between FYS and bayside so that was a lull at my show, plus it was at a college venue in central, IL but it was worth the drive, hung out with FYS Josh before he left the band and we drove to a gamestop and got food haha! feels like a lifetime ago now.
that is a bummer, now that i think about it i haven't seen them since prior to the pandemic, 2019 closed out my decade of TBS shows, i saw them yearly sometimes multiple times from 09-2019. i would love to hear new songs live but the last few summer tours were expensive, the one with third eye blind and the one with citizen, they wanted 50-90 dollars for decent seats by me, fuck that ahah ive seen them so much that's not worth it for me. so i havent seen any 152 songs live but that sucks people ruin it, i fucking love lightbringer, what else do they play off the new album?
They play about half the new album. The one, amphetamine smiles, sold, keep going, lightbringer, and during the summer they switched a couple of times between quit trying and the stranger. The crowds I was in really seemed to enjoy the one (maybe not singing along, but there was a lot of head bopping) and S’old with that “little more your love” part. I get that a lot of people are there for the older songs, but I think the band could stand to lose a louder now song or two from the setlist.
yah i got tired of hearing ghost and error operator all the times i saw them, but they go hard when the crowd gets into it, including myself heh but yah new again and self-titled always got the shaft, it would just be flicker fade or gardens off happiness in, and then the bangers off tidal wave, and then half the set was TAYF/WYWTB. the set became very predictable, but they toured a lot and it was always easy to find someone to go with to see them, that's how i ended up seeing them over 30 times, same with NFG, they just play here a lot and 2019 and back the shows were always 30-40 bucks. cant beat that for a night of nostalgia imo.
Yeah i wish they had it on the setlist when I saw them this summer. It’s my favorite off the album too, but they played all the aforementioned songs plus Quit Trying, so not a bad batch of 152 songs by any means
Best part of the podcast: "I'm an old, grown up, mature wise man now." followed by "I had to sign a waiver to sell our last house because it was so haunted by ghosts."
It’s the one I want to see the most. I’m really hoping they play it this week at the holiday shows. I’ll be bummed if it’s the same setlist as the whole tour (and basically the same as the holiday shows last year).
If there’s one thing this band is consistent on, it’s picking a setlist at the start of a touring cycle and rarely deviating from it.
True, however they have traditionally swapped things up for the holiday shows. Last year, however, the holiday shows were basically at the start of the touring cycle so that's where the current setlist more or less debuted. The X factor is Mitch, their new drummer, but he has been playing with them for 7 months and was able to learn all the TAYF songs for WWWY, so hopefully this week will be a bit varied. I sadly don't think New Music Friday will make the cut, but I'm still hopeful as they've had a couple weeks off.
I’m not really team they should just break up either, but Mark has always been a key contributor and a core part of their sound. It will undeniably feel like a different group without him, but I’ll still be interested in whatever comes next.
Badly sprained my ankle at work yesterday, don’t think I’m going to make it to Mulcahy’s this week :’(
it's a damn shame this sketch was a one-off, it's so good. quotes from it randomly pop into my head way too often, and I haven't seen the full thing in probably a decade.
i could be completely wrong but im pretty sure last year i saw an area for people who needed assistance to sit side-stage, might be worth a call to the venue? they may need a hospital or dr. note but, worst they say is no??
Sorry to hear that friend! I sprained my ankle at the beginning of November but thankfully have healed up enough that I’m still making the trek to NY tomorrow. Getting in line early to hopefully get barricade so I have something to lean against, sadly won’t be able to be in the thick of the crowd this time. Will be at both Muls shows, will be wearing a gray TBS hat if anyone going wants to say hey.
yeah venues should have ADA compliant areas, whether a sprained ankle counts for that or not is another question. And it's been a while since I've been to Mulcahys but I'm having trouble envisioning where that area would be there lol
That group of people you saw sitting were just some people who thought they were at church with Adam.
