We’re moving and all of my games have been in boxes for a few weeks and I’m feeling like the Dave Chappelle crack meme.
It's very simple to pick up and play, but tough to perform well in solo, which is by design. It very much wears its inspiration on its sleeve in every way and scratches that Tetris/Puyo Puyo itch incredibly well. The fact that there's so much content in the way of different playable characters and bosses gives it a ton of replayability and it's very fast to set up and play a couple rounds. It very much has that "one more try" dopamine hit at the end of a game
Sooo, I’ve been at UnderQuest for about an hour and a half now, and…it’s amazing. I’m getting my ass kicked but having a really great time. He’s already finished the first booster pack too, which will have 54 new cards! The new Boards of Canada album is also the perfect soundtrack for it.
I've been in a slump with boardgaming lately, but by golly I might just drag out Tin Helm/Realm in your honor
I think you should just treat yourself and order UnderQuest (unless you already did and you’re just waiting for it). The best way to get yourself out of a gaming slump is to spend a lot of money on a new game, obviously!!
Played Moytura solo and quite enjoyed it! Definitely going to take some extra plays before I fully grasp the strategy, but it plays quickly and scratches the area control itch with a lovely presentation.
It's really great. I haven't seen the final production (I have an older prototype), but even then it was super pretty. Have you tried Azure yet?
Ordered a small dice tower! Necessary because even with a tray I find my rolls have a tendency to either go flying or just land in a straight drop, ha. I have an eight hour flight coming up in a few weeks. Realistically, I’ll just end up reading or playing a video game, but I’m considering a TTRPG. I really wanted to try Carved by the Garden, but it uses a tumbling tower, which I obviously don’t want to use on a plane. I’m considering All Night Breakfast at the Midnight Owl, but I’m open to any suggestions! Also, I’ve been loving UnderQuest. It has been on my mind a lot, and I appreciate that I can just walk away and resume a game whenever without really having to think about what I was doing. I guess if I had to complain about a couple things, I wish it were slightly less luck dependent (this is a direct result of playing so much Nusfjord and Deckers lately, haha - two games that are basically all strategy), but I do think the luck mitigation is pretty good. My only other quibble is that the game mat design could’ve used some refinement; if you choose to use all the tracking cards instead of tokens, good luck also fitting all your ingredients, trinkets, treasures on the mat. (Tokens are more fun to use anyway though.)
Not yet, but I'm a big fan of abstracts so I want to give it a go. Bitewing's whole mythos series is very much up my alley
I just sleeved all of UnderQuest. I found that very satisfying. Maybe I will sleeve all my games from now on; Nusfjord is the only other one I’ve done.
I may have gone way overboard and ordered a ton of TTRPG journaling games (and Solitary Defilement; and Four Against Darkness). Sigh.
I just bought GO FUCK YOURSELF on a whim because of a stupid ad on Instagram. And then it tricked me into getting an expansion pack for only $2 more, so I did that... haha
I think the impulse came from researching TTRGPs and TTRGP journaling games, but as I played UnderQuest last night, I decided to incorporate a narrative by documenting each step of the game in story form. I’ll probably have to spread the game out over the course of a few nights since playing it this way took me close to two hours just to get to the second level, but it was a shocking amount of fun and a great way to spend my Friday night. The game doesn’t really have much narrative on its own, but I found that it gave just enough to make filling in the gaps pretty simple, and now I’m even more excited for all the journaling games I ordered (and Four Against Darkness) to arrive.
