Nusfjord rocks. I was on my way to having my best round yet but got distracted and greedy when the castle appeared as an option. I was able to build it for those 11 victory points, but failed to do much else in the last two rounds while I was trying to gather the required resources for it. Only ended up with 25 points total, my worst game yet, but had a good time. After a year of playing nothing but Final Girl, it feels good to play a game where you don’t lose. (Although I am looking forward to trying the campaign mode.)

edit: decided to order sleeves for this one

Anyone wanna play Carcassonne on BGA today? Casual - I don’t know if I have time to sit for a proper game but should be able to take all my turns throughout the day.

Doom Machine is so much fun. Finally beat it, and it was well fought - I had one HP for the last, like, five turns but somehow managed.

Got in plays of Logic & Lore, Tag Team, Iliad, and Compile today. Had a great time with all of them, but really enjoyed Iliad

So many good games! Iliad, Logic and Lore, and Tag Team were all in my top games of the year last year.

Played my first game of Deckers! I tried to learn it last week, but I was really struggling even after reading the manual and watching a playthrough. I then ended up watching this yesterday, which was finally what made the game click and feel considerably more accessible, and sure enough I was able to get it going today and now even the manual makes sense where it wasn’t before.

What a game - I found each turn taking forever because there is such a wide range of actions you can take that you really have to think about what might bring you closer to accomplishing your objectives, and you also have to keep in mind how your strategy might be hindered by the start of turn and other effects. I feel like I hardly even scratched the surface of what was possible but I think I did pretty well for my first time. I beat the first two objectives, but the final one was absolutely brutal and felt the most like a final boss I’ve ever experienced in a board game. I knew what I had to do to beat it, but I just couldn’t pull it off, haha.

Really great first impression. Also majorly impressed with the packaging and ease of setup/takedown.

Not a tabletop guy at all, but I recently discovered what Trench Crusade is and this lore is fascinating to me.

  11. my friends and i have been focusing on mtg and lorcana related activities recently; i think the last board game we played was Bonsai, which i really enjoyed. i've been getting some board games on clearance from B&N and from my local comics/cards shop. recently got Marvel Damage Control for $5, haven't had the chance to try it out yet tho

It introduces 10 new monsters (in the intermediate/advanced categories) with unique mechanics, including deck-building and hidden teams.

Apparently it's getting launched on Kickstarter later this summer (and you'll be able to get the base game as well) with a 2027 release date.

@itsameetch did you get your copy of Underquest yet? They seem to be shipping out

Mine shipped yesterday! I am VERY excited for it but it’ll probably be a couple months or longer before I can play it because I still have so much of Nusfjord and Deckers left to explore.

I played the new Catan On The Road card game last night, so much better than Catan. Good little filler game.

@theagentcoma I just begrudgingly tore down Nusfjord because I decided I want to try to UnderQuest this weekend, and it turns out the game mats are larger than my table so I had to order an appropriately sized folding table. I’m not mad about that because this has come up with other games so the longer table will be nice to have; I’m just pissed I tore down a game I could’ve kept on the table after all, haha. No idea why I didn’t check before I boxed everything up!

But yeah, hopefully I’ll get to play some UnderQuest tomorrow or Monday! I’m reading through the manual right now and I’m very excited. The crafting mechanic seems fun. I’m also glad that I’ve played Tin Realm so at least some of this already feels familiar.

Didn’t get a chance to play it so it will have to wait until next weekend, but I did go ahead and set it up so it’ll be waiting for me.

Been getting a good bit of board gaming in lately!

I tried the demo version of Gudnak, which had a lot more depth than I expected from a game that could be played on a 3x3 grid. Really enjoyed it and will likely pick up the starter box at some point.

Got my third play of Wondrous Creatures in with a friend, which was also my first non-solo play. Still loving it as an engine builder and I felt that the solo mode actually compares very well to multiplayer.

I got a good deal on a copy of Bullet Heart, which I've been enamored with.

I picked up a copy of Compania and played through it solo. It's a fun engine builder with stellar art direction.

Lastly, I played Magical Athlete for the first time and had an absolute blast. Just a ridiculous good time with a group
