I finally beat Berith! And Ursula survived. Really intense game that came down to a single dice roll, but luckily I had five of them to roll and both close calls. It wouldn’t have been so close, but I decided to take a risk by moving out of Berith’s space instead of killing her so I could buy an expel demon card and increase the chances of Ursula surviving. Turns out, it wasn’t necessary, but this was the most strategically I’ve approached this feature film so far and I feel pretty rewarded for it. Really awesome match.

After I won, I cleared my table of everything Final Girl. It is time to take a break to explore Nusfjord and Deckers.

Called off work today and decided to teach myself Nusfjord first because it seems more peaceful than Deckers. Set everything up and read through the manual, which took a pretty long time, but I think I understand it for the most part and it seems like it’s going to be a great time. I’ll hopefully try to start my first game a little later this afternoon, but if not, the weekend is near! I only learned a few days ago that it’s the same designer as Agricola, so I’m even more excited now - Agricola is a game I played with my ex only a few times, but we loved it.

I was worried the art would be too bland but it is actually quite nice in person, at least for its theme.

I also love the fact that you can kind of arrange the game to fit your space. It would not have fit on my table if I had strictly stuck to the layout in the manual, haha.

On another note, do you all sleeve your games? I’m far too lazy to want to do that, but perhaps I should overcome that for the sake of longevity now that I’m this deep in the board game rabbit hole. I did buy an automatic card shuffler, though, so at least I’m not constantly bending cards with my poor attempts at shuffling.

edit: Dear lord: Unstoppable, Doom Machine, Gate + Gates have all shipped. I am about to be drowning in games. Before I know it, Arkham Horror LCG and UnderQuest will also be on their way. Perhaps I overdid it, lol.

Have you used your shuffler yet? So many mixed reviews on Amazon - hesitant to buy one.

Yep, I’ve used it quite a few times in the month I’ve had it, and it seems to work pretty well. Smaller cards (I don’t know proper sizing terms, but for example, the item cards in Final Girl) sometimes jam but it takes about two seconds to clear it up. Regular size cards have shuffled flawlessly so far.

This is the one I have:

I have only sleeved Mansions of Madness & Final Girl since they both have a ton of cards used regularly

I need you all to hold me to my “no more new games” vow and tell me I shouldn’t buy At the Gates of Loyang to have on deck.

At the Gates of Loyang is an all time favorite of mine. But wait for the Trick or Treat Studios version that’s supposed to come out later this year.

It releases in two days, according to GameNerdz! That’s why my temptation is so strong. So you’re saying I can buy it? ;-)

Dutrait on a Uwe Rosenberg seems really cool. To this day the only Rosenberg's I've played have been Agricola and Bohnanza.

Rosenberg is probably an all-time designer for me. His sensibilities really click for me.

I also have a soft spot for Klemens Franz artwork, but I know a lot of people don't like it. Dutrait is great too, though. So I'm excited to see this production.

Yeah, that’s exactly what they are! I ordered them after I saw a YouTuber using the same ones, haha.

Just finished my first game of Nusfjord! It was difficult for me to come up with a strategy, but I played my last round really well and got a free fourth action by building a fortress, which ended up increasing what would have been an 18 point game into a 27 pointer - not bad for my first time!

That was really fun and it went way faster than I expected for a first game. Bodes well for replayability.

Played some Moon Colony Bloodbath tonight

Really fun and interesting game. Definitely suffers a bit from if one person gets too far ahead there isn't much to help others come back. But the gameplay loop is a ton of fun even if you know you can't win

Received Doom Machine + Gate + Gates today!

Played Doom Machine. Lost in like ten minutes, but it was fun. I love how many dice are involved, lol. Think I’m really going to enjoy this one.
