Found out my cousin is pretty into board games and even has a board game night with friends. He invited me to join them when I want. guess he’s very into castles of burgundy and even has gone to some Las Vegas competition thing for some game lol
I forgot, I got some promo cards for Gate/Gates when I ordered expansion backs for the Tin Helm/Realm games: - 2 Citizen cards - 1 Starting card - 1 Hero - 3 Enemies I can send them to you if you want! I've never played it, but seeing as how it's a 4/5 on the 'weight' scale on BGG, I'm assuming there's a learning curve
That is very kind of you, thank you! I will let you know! I don’t think the game even arrives until next month. Sigh. Yes, everything I’ve read suggests that Spirit Island can be very difficult to learn, but that the gameplay itself is straightforward and the real complexity comes from the decision making. I’m very tempted to order it to play this weekend (birthday weekend, woo!), but I’m worried about the setup time. I saw one person claiming it takes like an hour to set up (!), but then I saw people on Reddit saying it only takes 5-10 minutes, so I don’t know what to believe! I’m still early in my solo board gaming adventure, but if there’s one thing I know I don’t enjoy, it’s a long setup time.
Also Game Crafter is having a Valentine's Day sale. It's the site with all the good print on demand games that @wisdomfordebris and I love. Valentines Day Sale
Been playing a lot of very light games of late between holidays and the football season ending, but today that ends.. We're giving SETI a try, and I gotta say CGE went above and beyond with the production on this thing.
I’ve had my eye on A Gentle Rain after hearing y'all talk about it and The Four Doors by Matt Leacock. I love Forbidden Island but haven’t played anything else by him yet. anyone else played The Four Doors?
I played it and sold it. Watch Chris and Wendy’s review on the Dice Tower. It summed up my thoughts on it well (and they compared it to Forbidden Island).
Gotta try Pandemic at least once if your the least bit interested in Leacock’s co-op designs (could also go for Fate of the fellowship or the Cthulhu/Warcraft ones if you don’t want to deal with a straight Pandemic theme)
SETI was quite fun, had a more AP prone player dragging the playtime out a bit but I was engaged for the almost 3 hours.
@Colby Searcy Did you buy the Demon in the Shadows feature film? I got around to playing it yesterday and it’s fantastic. I’m very excited to play it again. The mechanics it introduces are straightforward and easy to understand yet add strategy, and the map is great. I strongly recommend it as it’s my favorite first playthrough of a FF in a minute.
It has a mechanic that incorporates the extra final health tokens, and the way you win the game presents a fun balancing act where you want to hurt the demon without killing the nun it has possessed. After I lost but didn’t want to commit to a second game, I watched this playthrough of it which I thought was good. If you’re curious but still on the fence, check it out: If “demonic crocodile” doesn’t sell it, perhaps we are very different people.
I really need to stop spending money, but I just ordered Deckers and the new Arkham Horror LCG core box which drops next month. I wanted to get the current version because it seems pretty beloved, but people on Reddit seem to think newcomers might as well wait for the new one.
My problem is that other than final girl and tin realm, everything i’ve ordered recently, like unstoppable and underquest, have been preorders or are just taking forever to ship, so it feels like I’ve purchased very little until the day everything arrives and I’m suddenly wildly overwhelmed lol i am most excited for underquest and arkham horror because both seem so up my alley
