Look at this nasty ass turn someone took in King of Tokyo in BGA, never seen a 6 claw turn and he took out 2 of the other players, just leaving us two.
Yeah. We really enjoy it. We really like the variety between scenarios. We aren’t shy to use hints. No sense in just being frustrated… we just take the hint and move on from there. The kids ones are really great if you have kids.
I have too many kids. We just find the Unlock unintuitive when it comes to solving the puzzles I guess. Big big fan of the Exit games, if you’ve played those
Trying to get into board games this year. The Christmas haul. Most are @JRShoenberger recommendations.
Is anyone a fan of any of the games in the Tiny Epic series? I’ve never played one, but they have me really intrigued about the Kickstarter for their upcoming Tiny Epic Game of Thrones game
I’ve played a couple, and they’re okay. Not really something I’m too excited about. But maybe this will be the one? Maybe?
Finally got a game of Apiary in at the boardgame bar with a buddy. Seems potentially very solid, though I don't think it shines too strongly at 2, just too many spaces to play at so the bumping mechanic doesn't come into play as much as it probably does at 3, 4, or 5. And while I do love the look and feel of the components, especially the QueenBee Ship, it feels like a very loose integration of mechanics and theme; made a couple of obvious strategic mistakes, realizing immediately afterward that I'd fucked up and my buddy ending up winning by about 6 at end-game, which was ok with me because it felt like I was getting destroyed. Stonemaier still is a quality publisher still, no surprises there but I'd probably rank it under Scythe and Wingspan by a fair bit... did manage to get a copy from GameNerdz for 53 bucks which feels like a steal, and will love to report back when I get it to the table with a full group.
How’d the balance of the player powers seem? I know that’s always a rub with SM games and I’ve seen some people online commenting on it.
Well we just played with the starter factions so I don't think the powers were anything too crazy, mine was just soring a VP for every farm adjacent to my tile (and I never actually upgraded my faction tile), I don't exactly remember what my friend's ability was but I think on upgrade he got to collect one of each advance hex.
