damn Wingspan rules. been putting in a lot of time on the Switch and finally got the game over the weekend. Bought it 'used' on Facebook Marketplace but it was never played - everything was still wrapped. $60 game for $40 essentially new. And I sold Settlers and Ticket to Ride to get it lol
I don’t give a hoot about Marvel, but I went down a deeeeep board game rabbit hole on YouTube, and the Dice Tower fuckers convinced me to buy Marvel United today hahaha.
Yeah it's already a mess because Ravensburger severely underestimated the demand for it and allocation is a mess. Some stores got like 1-3% of what they ordered and boxes are already going for way over MSRP. It's nonsense. Can't wait!
Yep people are already selling boxes for absurd prices on eBay that they haven't even PURCHASED from GenCon yet. They plan on getting there and standing in line forever since boxes are at MSRP there, then flipping them for like $350. So gross
I'm down bad for Lorcana, the pain is real. Impossible to find stock anywhere near me. Prices are absurd. The Disney Machine presses on.
It looks promising mechanically and I miss playing a TCG regularly, but so far it's been the exact opposite of what I was hoping for in terms of retail/secondary market. I was really hoping the force of Disney would have it at crazy print numbers and keep aftermarket prices low, but seems like it's going to be even worse than MtG/F&B.
A store owner I know is worried about how organized/tournament play will last for Lorcana since the initial launch has been so dominated by collectors and scalpers instead of players.
It's truly awful tbh. The second product goes out in big box stores it's gone like 20 mins later. The scalping on Facebook/ebay is insane. Thankfully I was able to get about 20 packs from several different LGS's near me all at MSRP somehow when it first released. I've gone to a few events and had a lot of fun and will actually be going to a win-a-box tourney later in the month. I've got enough for one deck and that's good enough for now
An update on Lorcana: haven't touched the game in probably 1.5 months. I got so burnt out trying to find product. And now a new set comes out this week, and I haven't secured any preorders and I'm not going to repeat the hunt for product from the first set. If I keep playing, it'll be buying singles only. Kinda reminds me why I stopped playing paper Magic. In other news, I've pivoted to wanting to try relaxing solo games. @JRShoenberger I forgot I wasn't following you on IG. I looked at your review for For Northwood and it looks pretty fun. Have you ever played A Gentle Rain? It's a solo game that's supposed to be super chill. Can't find it anywhere tho
For Northwood is so good! Definitely check it out. Buttonshy has a few great solo games. Food Chain Island is my favorite and isn’t too stressful. Sprawlopolis is a lot more stressful, but also very good. Also check out Crystallo (I think it was at Barnes and Noble), pretty relaxing. I thought Gentle Rain was sort of boring and I moved on from it. But I know people who liked it.
I haven't found much time for playing board games lately, but I'm hoping that through the holiday season I will. There are too many games in my apartment that I haven't even cracked open that I want to try out. ... Though I have played a couple scenarios of Gloomhaven and one of Frosthaven, lol. Talk about a time commitment. I've got friends who are running through the campaign, so my wife and I join now and then for individual scenarios. Frosthaven was a trip. Would love to play more often, but between D&D and regular board games and videogames, I'm probably maxed out on time until my kids are old enough to play something.
I finally got my hands on Heat: Pedal to the Metal and am gonna be playing that and Scoville on my next boardgame night Sunday. I fucking love Scoville, one of the first games I bought
